Quote:At Sony's E3 2008 press conference, Jack Tretton announced a 80 GBPS3 "Core Pack" that'll go for $400 ? "the same functionality of the 40 GB... with twice the storage," he said.
"This new 80 GB PS3 is perfectly suited for HD games, music, movies and more." Full release below...
at least the 40gb will get a price drop lol. Dang i shoulda wait lol. I blame MGS4 lol couldn't resist the temptation anymore and decided to buy a 40gb to play it instead of waiting for a 80gb bundle.
Really, the best PS3's were the 60GB which have actual Hardware instead of Software for the backward compatibility, and the Cell Processors were supposedly lowered.
In any case you can always go and buy a 320GB Hard Drive for your PS3 for about $120. From what i herd that does not void your Warranty.

You're thinking opposite. The 40GB PS3 had the processor fabrication lowered and had less power usage. The 40GB has no BC obviously. The 60GB is still king, 80GB second due to software BC, and 40GB/80GB* is third due to a few features removed.
I was hoping they introduced the old 60GB model with an 80GB HDD. Not that I don't own a PS3, but I think people would rather buy a full featured piece of hardware.
Sony will never bring back full hardware for PS2 BC. Sony couldn't get software BC working properly in time for launch. They never wanted to put emotion engines in any PS3s, but saw they had no choice if they wanted BC for launch.
Also, the one who said that the 40 gig will drop in price, no it wont. The 80 gig will replace it. 399 for the 40 gig, and then you get 40 gig extra on your hard drive, for the same price of 399, and no extra features.
