Good now you know how us 40GB owners feel :D

Try using the scart lead and see if that fixes it. if so it's probably a settings problem.

If not it could be you are using a PS3 from a different region. i.e playing NTSC games on a PAL PS3 etc. Remember even though PS3 games are region free PS2 games arent.

Call Sony. See what they say but my advice would be to try a format on your HD or a reset using the "holding down power button" method.

Have you tried using a scart lead instead of the hdmi cable? Did the picture still look the same?

K np. Well like I said the only reason I can think of that that is happening is because of region conflict or the tv/ps3 settings not being right.

I've seen 60GB have problems with PS2 games, but nothing like this. Your emotion engine or PS2 GPU is probably fried. You'll have to call up Sony and pay them $150 to fix it. With it being a 60GB I'm pretty sure it must be out of warranty by now. PS1 games will work, because those run through pure software emulation.

Give them a call and see what they say. If they say that the board needs to be replaced, which is what I feel, you might be able to buy a spare board and replace it yourself.

just change the cables ps2 games arent ment to be seen in hd so it buggers the picture up when you try to play one through a hdmi cable

buy one of them rgb things and pulg it in when you want to play the ps2 games.

90% sure.

dont think so - i have a 60gb and i can play ps2 games with no problem thru an hdmi cable. if its doing it for more than one ps2 game it must be something to do with the settings. have you tried changing the ps2 upscale settings on the ps3? If its on - turn it off and see if it fixes it - and vice versa

Please dont use computer language too much because i dont get it.. yeah?

Actually it could be the games. Before anyone jumps down my throat I'd like to point out when the PS2 and ps3 came out they did 3 to 4 different disc hue colored discs. Call it a hunch but take a look at each disc, if you have an older disc that's a dark blue and a newer one that's eye color blue; I'm pretty sure neither will work with the 60! It may have to be a black disc... which raises another good question have you done any updates for your ps3? If that's a yes that I didn't read I apologize.

I will admit I am guessing wildly about this, however I had one of the ps2's that had the hdd attachment. The older blues worked off and on, the black discs I had no issues, but the 2nd version blue it would not read for move, money, or sex... even with updates. When I it finally died on me I told about this disc problem from a game stop vendor, who claimed my ps2 wasn't defective concerning this; it was how sony had done these discs, and apparently there was a class action lawsuit over it...

Another question springs to mind... are you using original discs? What I mean is are any of the games you have whether they be ps1 or 2 of the 'greatest hits' variety? If so give them a shot. Everyone I've talked with who has a 60 has never yet had a problem with these discs; nevertheless this was nothing more than word of mouth, but anything is worth a shot with reason.

One final question, what brand is your tv, who makes and how old is it? I ask these next out fear that's its older than two years, which could explain your hdmi issue... long story short is that if your tv is hd ready; is may not be hd compatible. If its hd compliant then were in the clear on that side. Its a long story which I'm sure anyone here can iterate alot better than what I can, and I'll leave it for someone else to do because I only know that from what I heard; some tv's did not have the chip in them to do hdmi when they were sold.

Polaroid???? Only TV's I'm aware of are the small ones for road travel that they make. Is this one of those, or am I just going loony?

Next remark: god of war should not have any problems with a ps3, however I have been hearing some complaints about Naruto games, some folks have been stating to me about a repeat of ff7: Dirge of Cerberus effect where the entire display frame would downgrade from 800x600 to 600x480. I've only seen this happen with a ps2 and with first gen LCD tv's that were compatible, not with the ps3 so... excuse me I'm rambling.

Dumb question: of these are ps2 games have you yet to try these on a ps2? At least if they work you can confirm it isn't the discs that are bad. It is rare, but I have seen it happen. When they did ff tactics for greatest hits the game ended up having several bad copies sent out, usually on a ps2 the result would show up as a red tinted screen instead of a blue tint.

Depending on the 80GB PS3 that you have, it may or may not be backwards compatible. See the below chart from http://wikipedia.com

All PS2 Models play PS1 Games.

I guess the other way to tell backwards compatibility is to see for the Chrome trim and Media card readers.
