Do you have all of the the supported resolution checked?? Make sure you have 420p,720p,1080i, and 1080p checked. If your TV does not support one of the resolution(and your TV does) the TV will flicker.
The only thing I can think of is the game that you are playing goes up as 720p for resolution.
If you have done both of the things I have mentioned then I am at a lost as what the issue is.

I meant to say that the game that your playing only goes up as high as 720p.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING!!!??? Anyway, both your games only play as high as 720p. If you look at the back of the game cases they will say "Supported HD video output and a list of resolution the game does support. I'm looking at the back of my MGS4 case and it says it supports up to 1080p. So your basically out of luck as your 2 games will not play in 1080p only 4209,720p and 1080i.

lmao, yelling, he's right, not all of them go up to 1080p. i don't know why though. maybe it just takes to long for the game makers, not to mention size. maybe thats what delayed the mgs4 launch. they say sony asked them to make the game full hd.

Hey, I had the same problem and here's how I fixed it. On the main menu, go to settings, scroll down to and select display settings, select video output settings, select HDMI, select custom, then uncheck all of the display settings, but leave 1080p checked (480p can't be unchecked), scroll to the right, hit X, then select finish. When you start your game, assuming it's capable of displaying 1080p, will be displayed at 1080p. Please note, if your game only displays at a maximum of 720p, you will have to go back to settings and put a check next to the 720p setting, otherwise your game will be displayed at 480p. Let me know if this works.

MGS4's actual resolution is actually 720p, it upconverts to 1080p like cod4.

I understand that some games (Halo 3 for example) is upconverted 1080p but as far as I understand if the game does not list 1080p it will not run or upconvert to 1080p.

The console doesn't upconvert it the game does. The games that I know do this are mgs4 and cod4 from 720p to 1080p and haze upconverts from something like 634p to 720p. All 3 games list their upconverted resolution on the back of the box except in pal regions if I'm not mistaken.

Okay but the bottom line is the 2 games SPACEDOG1 has will never play in 1080p since 1080p is not listed as a supported HD output for Madden 08 and Army of 2.
