I'm attempting (for the 1st time) to back-up "The Matrix" a DVD-9 (I checked it on this site). I'm using DVD Shrink. After analysis I have a complete green bar, Menues 84 mb, Main Movie 3,192 mb, & Extras 1,186 mb. I have under Compression settings : Video "Automatic" Menus w/ 66.6%,Main Movie w/ 54.2%, & Extras w/ 71.4%.
The guide says "the most important information we have in the main window after the analyzing process is the bar at the top of the window. If it is totally green, you're reading a wrong guide -- what you have, is called a DVD-5 disc which fits directly to a single DVD-/+R disc" but further down it says "In any case, in order to make the original to fit to a recordable disc, the bar needs to be totally in green." Am i using the right guide? When I use Decrypter it tells me the I have to much for the disk and need to compress??
If the green bar is totally green with no red, reads 4464 MB you are good.
Thats a lot of compression, highlight (click on) the extras, select custom ratio instead of automatic and add some compression.
Make sure to get rid of any extra audio and subpictures you don't need.
Select deep analysis too.
What guide are you using? I'd like to check it out.

I'm using "Copy entire DVD-9 movie to a single DVD-R using DVD Shrink" from this website. When I highlite menus, main movies or extras I'm supposed to see a screen showing "streams" with with ratios to choose. Also I'm supposed to see two sizes compressed & original. How do I reach these screens??
That guide isn't the one you want if you are using version 3.1.4, its for an earlier version. Try Oriphus's signature for his new guide to Shrink 3.1.4.
Another guide I like is:

I can help a lot more if you tell me what version you have. Click Help> About DVD Shrink...
For what it's worth, I personally like to compress my backup to the point that I have about 1/8 of an inch of gray showing, thus not having to write to the edge of the disc (that area most prone to "chipping").
Thanks for all your help. This is a very helpfull forum. I'm using DVD Shrink v3.1.4. The guide that Oriphus suggested is very good. It has cleared up some questions that I had.
