Connecting PS3 to HD capable monitor via DVI

Hi im looking for any kind of help possible. I currently have a KDS 22inch monitor with a DVI slot that im using as a monitor and a tv. I am able to run cox digital cable from an HD box to the monitor via hdmi to DVI cable. I works great and the monitor looks awesome. However, when i try to hook up my PS3 to the monitor via the exact same cable, i get nothing but a black screen. I have tested the PS3 out on a tv and it is properly functioning. Anybody have any idea what i might be doing wrong or have an suggestions?

Has the PS3 been set up to use the HDMI cable? Try turning it on with both the AV and the HDMI in.

The av cable that i have has no way to connect to the monitor. the only way i could connect it is via the hdmi to dvi format. Any other ideas? thanks for the help

Let me rephrase that.
Connect the PS3 into the TV (AV) and the Monitor (DVI) at the same time. Then go through the video settings menu and enable the HDMI output.
