StreetSkaterFU from PS3Hax & TeamICE has new info/video of booting backups on the PS3 ~ below taken from PS3-NL
Quote: The video shows:
- Warhawk running from HDD
- no PKG version
- no WH disc while WH is running
- Motorstorm running as proxy disc
- legal way
I wont explain the details here till the project is finished 100%, also cuz many devs want to take a look at first and not get it patched that fast. I can say that if all will work like I want it to you'll need:
- "special" game dump of the game you want to play from HDD
- one (any) original bd game
- 2x minimum 60GB HDD's (illegal way - it worx but its not allowed in most countrys - its working like a packed game on psp memory stick)
OR
-1 60GB HDD + original disc (legal way - no need to be inserted while playing)
Im using newest firmware PAL 60GB SKU. 3 games tested yet - working.
Games which should be possible from the knowledge i got yet:
- Warhawk
- Motorstorm
- Resistance
- GT5
- COD3
- ...
I cant check more atm, as I dont have else here. The final way will be a bit different than the video shows. Even there are 2 different ways then to do it, thats because there are 2 different groups of games. One can be done with 1 HDD but then you need the original disk of the game.
i dont support piracy, this is just to safe your disks
THIS IS JUST A PROOF OF CONCEPT - NOT A FINISHED PROJECT!!!
if video doesnt work as stream just download it:
http://www.nera-studios.eu/ps3.MOV
better quality vid will come when i get new hdd + repaired hdtv
I hope you see theres no hidden PKG (game list is shown), no hidden disk (i insert motorstorm). At the end of the video i just wanted to show its no test unit --> watch the settings.
Sorry for bad TV quality, my HDTV just exploded and i need to use SDTV for 2 weeks now
if there are any questions, you can ask but i dont say ill answer all.

I used TeamICE as a descriptor of who he is in the scene but he does not have any affiliations with them because of their own BS they pulled. Quote from SSFU about the whole situation
Quote: @team ice falmers/haders: theres no team ice behind this. team ice in ps3 scene is dead. i know team ice did false stuff but thats nothing related to me right now.

I have really low expectations at the moment, so if and when it does get released I'll be ecstatic and if it doesn't come out or isn't real I won't be pissed off. By ecstatic I mean gun slingin' into the air ;)

Well I know its possible to play backups off a dev system, but is he referring to a dev system/test system or a stock system(modified as a dev system). If its related to a Tiff exploit method then it can be patched like SSFU mentioned, which to be honest is not a good idea to release until other devs look at it.The problem is finding a method to distribute it to the public without Sony getting it.If Sony can get their hands on it then more than likely they will destroy it.I think the best method is to find or make a mod of some sort that can't be effected with firmware updates a hardware driven based hack.I'm just bringing up ideas off the top of my head, and storage is an issue like always. We are talking about Blu-Ray which can easily handle 50GB on one disc, not necessarily saying all the data on the disc is needed but I'm sure the hidden sectors can't be extracted from public Blu-Ray readers or burners without a hack of some sort. All the current game dumps that are available are useless from my point of view.SSFU did mention this in his statement that the games would have to be dumped in a special way which I agree, but to use the storage of the harddrive is not the best way.I know people are complaining about how much BD media cost, but its the best method for storage in my opinion and would be easier to duplicate than off a harddrive with a format that doesn't allow writing to it over the 4GB barrier.I'm not talking about linux when mentioning the 4GB barrier, but through the actual PS3 hypervisor.I think we all know if a hack exist its going to be used from the hypervisor, because linux doesn't gain any access to the hypervisor.

Team ICE was not BS. Team Ice had found a way in run a self file through abnormal means. They thought they found a way to run unsigned code but it turned out to be useless. They released the work they found and when it turned out to be nothing they were branded as fakers. I'm a member on the ps3hax boards and STREETSKATERFU doesn't post too much crap. If this turns out to be nothing please take note that StreetSkater posted that it was a proof of concept.
BTW Oner, Team Ice is dead and had nothing to do with this project. StreetSkater just happened to be one of it's members.

He may be using a retail Euro 60GB PS3 system, but not much is mentioned from my understanding. For instance every console has a dev/test unit that the developers use,but they are both completely different. The same applies in this case is the hack based on a retail console modified as a dev/test unit or is it just a retail system hack.In other words if I have a retail system on me right now lets say the exact same model would I have to hack it to think its a dev/test unit or would it work without any modifications done to it.If this is the only information we are given from SSFU then nobody can really make out if its legit or not even Alek and Mathieulh wouldn't be able to determine if its legit without more information. The video doesn't explain much from my point of view, and not much in detail behind the hack to consider it something.I like to see details not a video that doesn't explain much.I would have to say this is fake from my assessment, because not much information is given.Trust me when something legit comes out more information will be available and it will probably cover how the hack was done indepth from resources.
In other words this isn't something I would get excited over without having some info addressing what was done and what it does.

Please face the facts. This one is real. Now if we will ever see an actual release, that's a different story. People have confirmed it. All I can say is don't update when 2.43 comes out. There are firmware bypass methods so you can still get on PSN with a lower firmware. This means Sony is going to have to make a kick @$$ 2.5 to get people to update.

I'm honestly not too stoked about the ps3 possibly being hacked, its the main thing that gave us leverage over the 3rd party dev's compared to the 360 and if that's gone then we're going to go back into a rut superior system or not dev's are (usually) two things:
1.)lazy
2.)profit whores
So since both systems are hacked then they're just port stuff to the ps3 from the 360 because the 360 is easier to program for and its going to get stolen either way. And it also makes us less likely to get exclusives as well for the same reason.
The only thing I'd like to see the ps3 hacked for is full rsx and cell power under linux, I'm not planning to backup games or steal them on the PS3 anyway so anything else is a hindrance.

I hope this is legit I can't stand the loading times on the PS3 and 360 something that would allow you to back up games to the HDD would be a god send.
Thats just one benefit as well the others are more obvious. My 360 HDD fix is coming with the next dashboard update but if this turns out to be true I can hook my PS3 up with a 1 terabyte HDD and zap those loading times and forget disc swapping.

That would be nice. I wouldn't mind running XP on my PS3 at a good speed.

Actually after seeing the video I think it is a fake now, because of the game used WarHawk. The game was released for the harddrive and on disc,so its possible to run WarHawk straight from the harddrive already. If you have the link to the new video let me know Oner, because I would like to take a look.

The first thing I'd do if that happened would to be install halo and laugh my ass off.

The thing about that is in the video he shows that Warhawk is not installed.

Ok I see what you mean, but who is to say its not running off of the harddrive.I can't make out what the other disc is in the video, but I do see the WarHawk disc.It starts out WarHawk disc is in the PS3 then whoever is in the video hovers over it and hits the disc icon which shows WarHawk.By the way how do you know its not installed on the harddrive it could have a different icon which is possible.Plus SSFU said it only works on some games, which means they are probably the games that are made for the harddrive already. Its not a good game to show people since it has the ability to run off the harddrive already, and I looked at the other video and Motorstorm freezes just like the person is trying to run a tiff exploit or something of that nature.I'm not going to say its real until more information is revealed, and the video still doesn't show much or explain what is going on.I hear tons of clicks and heard it was from the camera refocusing on the TV.Sorry I'm not buying into it being real until some information is displayed that shows what it does and how it works that is just the way I am.

I can understand the cynicism but remember Alek & Mathieulh wouldn't stick there necks out like that unless they have had first hand confirmation.
