I just joined Afterdawn, and there's tons of useful information here. I've read and learned how to do a little bit of hardcoding and avi joining, ect with Subtitle Workstation and Virtual Dub (+Mod) and I've been using one of Xillisoft's old Conversion programs to put videos on PS3.

I've been renting and watching more foreign flicks and programs lately and that has led to problems like Audio and Subs being out of sync and not being able to see the subtitles. Long story short, this made me look at all of my old stuff, and I've noticed that when I look at the "Normal" or even "Full Screen" resolution, a bit of the picture is being cut out. Some movies' subtitles aren't even mostly on screen.

So, I'm learning to use GSpot, to see the Codec, framerate and built in Reso. Most videos are in an Xvid format (weighing 700mb) at the moment and will play on the PS3. I'm in the Process of re-encoding them with a 720x480 resolution (I'm just learning to keep them in the same codec/container to cut my quality losses)hoping that i can see them full screen without cutting the scenes out. What might I do, to get the best pictures possible?

I use a SDTV myself, but for the family/friend gatherings, it's usually an HD set with 720p

*I AM reading the post I found in the rules." http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/621809" I have yet to try or learn this, but I'm going to be honest and say I can't grasp this right away tonight, and I could use this info to set up before Bed, or at least while I'm gone tomorrow. One problem I saw, was that there are a bunch of "recommendations" and Alternate ways people mention and suggest, which makes it a little difficult to decide what to dedicate to, even though I know it's supposed to be help* Thanks for hearing me out, I know this is alot of typing.

It sounds like the tv is cutting off a portion of the video, its very common on dlp televisions but happens on other types aswell. Look under the menu on the television and adjust the screensize when you have the video playing on the ps3.

I see what you mean. As far as Full / Letterboxing, video resolution and aspect ratio goes, there is no one shot , It would vary for each tv?

It would vary by model of television.

So is TsMuxeR still recommended? It seems it is for High Def files and right now I'm only doing SD avi's and dvd rips to put my collection on the ps3 and viewing occasionally on an HD set. I know It'll never match HD, but I want to at least get a clear, Full picture.

For us Non-HD guys, what's best?

I tried to wait long enough so I don't flood and pest the place.
