Hi all.

It's my first time posting in this section so please be gentle. I have a ps3 connected to a sony bravia via a hdmi cable. I can use all the functions of the hdmi (screen auto adjust, colour etc.) but when I turn on the ps3 the Bravia does not change to the desired input, I have to manually select. Also in the Bravia hdmi settings the ps3 is not recognised, although the hdmi function is turned on on both devices. Is this the fault of a faulty or non compatible hdmi cable (got it in work for nothing) before I end up spending funds on a new one.

Thanks for reading,
J.

It could either be that the TV or the cable isn't hdmi 1.3 compliant. See if you can dig up the specific specs of your tv and find what version of hdmi it supports. If its 1.3 then replace the cable with one that is guaranteed to be 1.3 compatible.

The hdmi specs from the manual tells me this:
HDMI:
Video: 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i, 480p, 480i.
Audio: Two channel linear PCM

TV manufacture date is 2007, I am guessing it is the cable so I might change it anyway just to see what happens.

I also have a bravia but with no issue. it recognizes my ps3 through the hdmi cable but I have to switch the the correct video input with the remote. the tv will not switch over w/o you doing something just because the ps3 turns on. The only problem that I have is that my lcd went bad and had to get it replaced luckily under warranty though.

The bravia should power up and switch to the correct av input on power up of your ps3, like a normal scart connection, and the ps3 should also power down if you turn off your TV. The ps3 should also be recognised in the TVs HDMI Device List in the setup menu.

I hate to say this but you are wrong on this one. Its like saying that your ps3 has power over everything that it is hooked up to. what if you have a cable box and a ps3 hooked up to the same tv. you have to manually switch them over to the right video setting it doesn't just do it automatically because you turned it on unless it was left at that particular video input the last time the tv was turned off. what if you turned on the ps3 and another device that was hooked up to the tv both using hdmi cables at the exact same time. would they fight to see who is the dominant one. come one man be realistic its just a push of the remote to the right input after you turn your ps3 on not that hard to figure out. if you think that I am wrong just call sony for ps3 trouble shooting 1800-345-7669 (1800-345-sony). and see what they say

Well could you explain this then. This is taken from the Bravia User Manual

Using HDMI Control

The HDMI control function allows equipment to control each other using HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) specified by HDMI. You can perform interlocked control operations between Sony HDMI control compatible equipment such as a TV, DVD recorder with hard disk and audio system by connecting the equipment with HDMI cables.
Be sure to correctly connect and set the compatible equipment to use the HDMI control function.

To connect the HDMI control compatible equipment

Connect the compatible equipment and the TV with a HDMI cable. When connecting an audio system, in addition to the HDMI cable, be sure to also connect the audio output socket of the TV and the audio system.

To make the HDMI control settings

HDMI control must be set on both the TV side and the connected equipment side. See HDMI Set-up (page 27) for the TV side settings. See the operating instructions of the connected equipment for setting details.

HDMI control functions

Turns the connected equipment off interlocked with the TV.
Turns the TV on interlocked with the connected equipment and automatically switches the input to the equipment when the equipment starts to play.
If you turn on a connected audio system while the TV is on, the input switches to the audio system.
Adjusts the volume and mutes the sound of a connected audio system.

I think that the last point kind of sums it up. And its not that it is that hard to select the right input, but it is a fact that this is a function that is not working.

Maybe Sony removed that function to reduce costs, lol :D

Also this sounds more like a TV problem not a PS3 problem so you may want it to be moved to the correct forum.

I know it says it in my manual as well. I do not have a XBR Bravia I have the w series 52" just call playstations customer service number. to see what the malfunction is. maybe they can explain it to you. what they told me is that they both have to be compliant. What I cant figure out is if you have more then 1 device hooked up to the tv and they both are compliant with what you are talking about. then you turn them both on which one is the dominant input. they couldnt answer me. so instead I just won one of those expensive remotes that controls everything with on click. they cost betweeen 250.00 and 600.00 dollars depending on what you have. I got the harmony one remote and to me its the best thing I have ever one.
