So crap, my HDD is NTFS.....I have windows Vista, is there anyway to partition/change this thing into a FAT32 so i can use it on my PS3 or did i just wast $150??
There should be an option in your PS3's System Settings or so to partition and/or format your hard drive. What's this about Vista, though? Are you going to use the same HDD for both your PS3 and your computer?
Boy... well, uh, I'm just gonna throw this out there (again), but there should also be something like "Format Utility" or something in Settings-->System Settings. It might be the one you use to format the HDD, I'm not sure. I'll check my PS3 later and get back to you.
But there's also the possibility of formatting it using your PC. What type of computer do you have? I know some computers (hell, probably all) have a built-in ability to partition drives and whatnot. I'll... also get back to you on that one.
I saw the Hard drive format thing in the PS3 Menu, but I think its talking about the PS3's HDD and i dont want to accidentally loose all my game saves....im gonna hit up Google myself a little more.....
I know theres that swiss knife program but its not compatible w/ vista was looking for a similar free program i could use w/ vista
Well i figured out my own problem w/ hours and hours of research, but if anyone else is having this problem here is how i did it (got a NTFS External converted to a FAT32 for PS3 Compatibility)
You need Windows XP--Download a program called SwissKinfe V3 and it is self explanatory and well convert the drive for you
Or open the command prompt screen in windows type convert F: /fs:fat32 (F: being the Ext. HDD, but you may have a different letter appointed, make sure u pic the right one)
Glad you figured it out. I would've gone and tried formatting my own and seeing what happened, but I'm too much of a chicken-shit to click past "Format Utility." Heh. I have this paranoid thought that I'm gonna automatically erase every single thing without even knowing it. Then I'd be all "FUCK!" and everything.
ha ha ha i was nervous too, didn't want to mess it up, but i didnt have anything stored on it yet, but i was just worried about ruining it....thanks for your help again though
