Yup, it will hang for 5 minutes or so there, and another moment after you click the next button, takes considerable time to install, and often fails during the hardware installation section if you have an incompatible motherboard (note that a few core 2 duo motherboards are incompatible). Once it's finally installed, be greeted with an OS that takes four times as long as XP to load. Turns out the files not accessible problem is with windows itself, and not just vista, but XP has an easy fix to sort the problem out, Vista doesn't.
sam, i understand your frustrations with vista, and rightfull so, but please dont state them liek fact, please state that in your case this ahppened.

The loading time is the case on everybody's PC I've seen so far. The bugs are neither here nor there, but the install time, random waits during install and the long bootup times are fact.

no wonder you need a lot of ram to run Vista, but hey Vista looks great the only con is the performance and buggy other wise it would've been a great successor of XP

I know of people with pirated copies of XP that look and sound EXACTLY like vista, just a lot of skinning work done. I'll let you know how the Vista installation with the new HDD goes.

you're so right!

2nd: What do you think of GA-EP45C-DS3R? It supports DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600. This is really future proof

Another Anandtech cockup by the looks of things - the 3870X2 uses more power than that - I expect the test they used didn't work in crossfire so the second GPU sat idle. Apart from that the chart is useful though, the graph ought to be updated with newer GPUs.

No LGA775 motherboard is future proof because they will ALL be replaced in a months time.

lol don't you like anandtech? and yeah some of the results looks a bit weird

hmm...then what, must i wait until newer board is out? So that means only case, PSU and GPU are future proof

Future proof GPU? Dream on. Power supply probably, case, probably.
As for Anandtech, they said the freezer 7 pro gives the same temperatures as a tower cooler (I forget which one) - that is grade A BS that.

Yeah PSU and case can be future proof, and even those not so much. A Blue Ray burner would last you about the same time also. Everything else gets outdated quickly.

no its not. they could have ben on a stock low power CPU, OR their meter doesnt read lower readings?

OR the fan could have been running at max.

anatech id trust, its one of the fully trust worth sites.

and why doesn't the 3870X2 use that much power?

Also sam, once again its not fact. my vista loads up in less than 2 minutes, with msn xfire, sidebar and everest and rivatuner all loading up at the start, on a nearly full 160GB per platter HDD.

i have had near 0 bugs, and no bsods that wernt an Ocing fault.

and this is on vista 64.

oh ok, thats not really believable for a cpu cooler

yeah, they sure do, but my future proof is like 2 years, because by that time i've graduated and started a part time job, you know what i mean.

and for the gpu, it is future proof, sam you're X1800XT last you quite some time didn't it?

I used it for a little over 18 months as a main gaming card, it's still in use now in my server.

As for vista, you don't test it the way I do. When I test XP using your methods, it takes 28 seconds. Can Vista beat that?

testing from the splash screen to when you can open a program. I test from pressing the power button to when the HDD usage ends, as that is when windows has finished loading, as that is the complete loading time of the PC.
