No they're entirely different things though they serve the same purpose I suppose.

PS3 video 9 is a video converter that turns most any video formats into one that will work with the ps3. Not a media server.

Tversity is a media server that converts the video stream as it is played to a different format which is ps3 compatible. Because of this on the spot converting it makes it almost impossible to fast forward or rewind the video at any real speed.

Depending on the video's I'd say tversity or an external hdd would be the easiest.

Because converting a large HD movie takes hours upon hours it would be easier just to play it through tversity which converts on the fly rather than waiting 12 hours and then putting it on the external hdd. But if the video alreaddy works with the ps3 just chuck it on the external hdd.

I have Tversity on my PC and I can stream with no problems forwarding or rewinding in HD or blu-ray to the PS3. However, I also have a pretty stout PC too.. Also Tversity is a bit of a pain to set up your sharing menus and sources so they look right. I also used ORB as well.. Dont care for it anymore. It's gotten buggier the more they release it IMO. With Tversity I can stream to my PS3 from PC then remote access with my PSP and watch, listen or view anything on my PC either thru my network or the internet wherever wireless is available. It's really nice and streams very well to the PSP.

i personally connect my PS3 wirelessly to my router, and have my computer's media sharing enabled. This way, I can stream directly off my comp, making things a whole lot more simpler and convenient.
If ure using Vista, just go to sharing settings and enable media sharing.

I have a 720p HDTV and was wondering What would happen if I set my video settings to 1080 instead of 720 on tversity

It would increase the demand on the PC and the network needlessly and possibly cause jittery playback.

not really. a 7200rpm hard drive is wayyy more than enough to stream videos to a PS3. Not to mention, video streaming doesn't take a lot of network bandwidth, specially if it is gigabit. I've been watching a lot of videos streamed off my PC and there has yet to be any skipping/lag. It's butter smooth.

Tversity converts on the fly to a different format which creates a large demand on its own increase the demand on the processor and ram and you may run into the jitters. For your computer it might not be a problem but for others it may be.

Streaming through your network dosent touch the internet so none of comcast's bandwidth is used.
