I've had mine since May, no troubles so far, though i havent been playing on it much.

A HDMI cable is also a definate buy for the PS3, makes the pic a lot more clearer. just make sure you buy a version 1.3 cable as those are the only ones that support proper HD content.

Also with HDMI cables you can buy a cheap one, you dont have to buy an expensive brand one as they perform the same over short distances <5m. I got my cable off ebay for £14 incl p&p

Thats all i can say to you really.

The bluray problem isn't as big as it appears, The failure rate is under 1%. The only reason it looks so big is because when it happens to people the first thing they would do would be to come to a help forum such as this so its kind of like a funnel I suppose.

The ps3 is one of the better up-converters for dvd's, but you can still only get true 1080p from bluray disks.

Just make sure the ps3 is in a well ventilated spot (ie. not in a cabinet or enclosed space) and you shouldn't have any troubles with it. I've had my ps3 on for a week strait before without problems.

My personal experience with it - all... three, four months or so... or maybe less - has been pretty much awesome, save for some run-of-the-mill head-scratchers about video files and backwards compatibility issues and upscaling and stuff. Just little technical stuff.

It's a great DVD upscaler, it's an affordable Blu-Ray player, it's got a fairly simple HDD upgrade process...

But the thing that sold me on it was that DVD upscaler.

Since you can use HDMI cables, you can always upscale DVDs fully. You aren't limited to a fullscreen format. My 360, though, could never upscale a widescreen DVD to fit the entire screen - it always forced it into a "fullscreen" picture, which always pissed me off.

Anyway.

If your buying it partly for the blueray player heres a bit of info you'll like, the versions or "profiles" of bluray change every once and awhile and that makes most standalone bluray players obsolete in respect to the new functions. But the ps3 gets updates from the internet via firmwares so that the ps3 is almost always the first bluray player to run the new content.

Hello All:
I've had my ps3 for almost a year now.
I got the 40gb w/ spiderman3 (no longer available).
I recently upgraded the internal HDD to 130gb to make room for game installs, videos, music, demos, etc.
I have had no problems thus far with the system (*knock on wood)
My gameplay ranges from about 10-20hours a week online and single player games.
This is the best purchase i have ever made. I have started a blu-ray collection and found some good deals on some older games.

My advice is ditch the 360 and go with the ps3 you wont be dissappointed!
Just make sure you take care of it and it will take care of you!

I've my ps3 for about 8 months now, no problems what so ever, except
I find that the wi-fi can get a buggy at times, but other than that I love it.
Go and pick one up, you will not regret it.

Yeah its a known issue with some of the newer firmwares on the older consoles, they're working on fixing it. But hey for gaming its really better to run wired anyway, less ping = less bullet lag.

Thats exactly what I did, got tired of the disconnects and I don't wanna take any chances when doing firmware updates.
