I bought a PS3 that wouldn't read disks for 75$. I put a dvd in and it spun up and then stopped spinning I tried to eject, but it wouldn't. I found to eject it I had to put the tip of another dvd into the drive well it is trying to eject it. Usually the PS3 gives it a big scratch or none at all. I tried a dvd cleaner and the fan trick that didn't work. Even though I don't have a reciept I might just call Sony and bug them untill they give me a new one. Any other solutions?

Why'd you buy it if you didn't intend to fix it yourself?

That aside, I'm sure one of the Seniors will know more than me, but it could be that the laser assembly's messed up.

Ehm you bought a PS3 that you knew it doesn't work and you expected it to miraculously work for you? You should either replace the Blu-Ray drive with a new one or just buy a lens mechanism (they sell them at ebay) which is cheaper and usually the problem is there.

If its not ejecting, it may be that the drive has been opened up before, and the eject mechanism has become unaligned. Check for signs the PS3 has been opened (warrenty sticker removed), if it has, you could open it up again check the drive assembly.

If it's not aligned correctly, you can just re-align it. It's tricky, but there shouldn't be any need to buy another drive.
