I really would love it if sega made it's re-entry into the console market. The Dreamcast was way ahead of it's time, way better than the playstation. The only reason that the playstaion was better was cause they told everyone it's , people got suckered in by the playstation mrketing team.
The Dreamcast was actually technical supearer. A Dreamcast 2 would rock!

What if EA made a console. They would have a Ton of exclusives. They have the money for it. And mostly like would be more successful than sega.

Would be good, but I was a huge fan of the Dreamcast. And Sega. If that was what they could do with the Dreamcast backthen, imagine the specs of the Dreamcast 2. I have heard rumours of a Dreamcast 2.

This will never happen... the real money comes from selling software, not hardware. Companies actually take a hit on the hardware. The only reason why ninendo/sony/microsoft are successfull is because they take in royalties from those they license to develop games for their consoles.
And i doubt sega will ever again develop consoles. They disbanded their hardware division and re-designed their corporation to focus on software sales. There is little to no risk in developing software. They can make a real stinker, and just bounce back on the next game.
Sega was plagued with poor decisions when it came to hardware. They had to bury hundreds of thousands of over-produced dreamcast units due to a poor judgement call from the US company president. I doubt they will ever even THINK of a new system at this point... especially with how the economy is doing right now.

I see your point. But it would have been interesting to see the number one third-party company challenging the big three.

That worked great for them last generation, but it backfired for the ps3. There's fewer people buying bluray than DVDs because most people dont have a high def TV. So the bluray player wildly inflated the price of the ps3 and didnt really increase the demand for it.

But the bluray player isn't just there for movie playback.
It's there to utilize the space and quality of Bluray format discs for actual games.
MetalGear 4 was 50GB on a dual layer BluRay disc.
That quality and length of cutscenes wouldn't have been possible on anything else I've heard of.

Very true, MGS4 did take up 50 gigs on the disk (though with standard-res cutscenes it would only have taken a fraction of that space)
But my point was that for most people those high-res cutscenes dont look any different than standard-res ones because we cant afford a HDTV. So all that extra data is just going to waste.
I'm sure as the installed base for HDTVs grows it will become more and more important to have HD cutscenes and textures, but as of right now sony jumped the gun and attempted to introduce technology before its time. The PS3 is a very nice machine, dont get me wrong, but the whole HD thing is wasted on most people.
Anyway, back to the original topic. I've been hearing rumors for years that apple was going to be introducing a console. I seriously doubt its true but sadly its about as likely as a dreamcast 2. Sega is out of the hardware business for good I think.
I think it would be cool if we got away from optical media entirely for the next generation. With flash memory prices falling like they are we could very well see cart-style games returning. It would be attractive to the console makers as well because flash is faster than a disk and it would allow them to build in anti-piracy features right into the games.

Im guessing because of how revolutionary the wii is and how it changed how poeple play games and it also made people who don't play games play them (which can be good or bad)
