PS2 Emotion Engine chip on PS3

I haven't seen any posts asking this so far so I just want some opinions on an idea. The reason that the 40GB PS3 will not play PS2 games is because it is lacking the emotion engine chip if my understanding is correct. If one were to desolder an emotion engine chip from a PS2 motherboard, would there be a place to put it on the PS3 board and would it work if attached? Any thoughts?

I'm guessing that would be only part of it, as there are the Euro 60GB (like mine) that run on emulation without the chip. There would have to be some changes made to the Bios as well, or at least some programming. Otherwise the PS3 is more likely to just ignore the Chip.
