just wondering if you can change the HDD in the PS3 to a bigger one just by installing it and turning it on ?.......or do i also have to partition it ? and if so does anybody know how or where to find this info .? thank's

Just plug the new hdd into the ps3 and it will do the formatting.

So the ps3's software must be in a ROM (Read only Mem)???? ........but not on the hdd ?....wierd but ill try it after i do a back up . thanks v!

So is it true that all i have to do to play ps2 games on it is to make a switch up for the BD controller ? (40GIG PS3) ....i was reading the forums and that is what i was led to belive .or is it just not possible at all due to Hardware ?....thanks for any help !

The 40gb version of the ps3 isn't bwc with ps2 games, however it can play ps1 games.

I have the 40 gig PS3 and I had to us a jump drive to backup all my files and for the current version of firmware to install to the new hdd so that the ps3 could format the new hdd and then for the ps3 to install the backup data. if you want to do it then hear ya go!

Thanks for that link !.....And i have another question ..is the sony playstation software (O/S) on the HDD or is it somewhere else? just trying to figure out how it does the formatting if the os that does the work is not there to oporate to do the formatting while the new HDD is in there. Thanks!

The OS is stored on a flash drive on the mobo just like the psp.
