i would assume so, it all depends on the file that you have downloaded.

if there is an .iso file don't forget to patch it

i've done quite a few and none brick. if it doesn't work it will restart the wii itself. and if any of the programs hang for some reason you just hold the power button and turn back on yourself

0.3 Gamma is the latest update and has better compatibility (example: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, We Ski, Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2 now work). You can also boot the backups via disc channel with gamma.

Hi.
I have the Waninkoko backup launcher (backup loader 0.3) installed (along with DVDx).
Is this loader better? Does it have shorter load times?

And if I want to update to this loader, do I have to uninstall the cIOS that came with Waninkoko's launcher. Will my backup discs work or should I reburn them using the converter that comes with Wiigator?

Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks a lot.

You can get the Gamma version HERE.

If you have Custom IOS36 rev 06 you can just update the Custom IOS36 rev 07 without uninstalling the rev 6 version.

I have a question:
The gamma version is said to have a compatability increase, but for some reason, my backup of mario kart wii still plays fuzzy and black and white, with the screen shifted down. But the compatability list says mario kart is tested to be working. Am I doing something wrong?, because my Pokemon Battle Revolution also still lags when I first bootup (but it plays flawlessly after the "press any button" screen). Anybody else having this problem?

Some of the Intro Videos will lag. This is a common problem with some backups. But the game play will work fine.

When you boot Mario kart go to the configuration settings of the Gamma backup launcher and change the FORCE NTSC to yes and then launch the game (this is a common issue with PAL games trying to be played on NTSC system). This should fix the black and white issue (keep in mind every time you want to load Mario kart you will need to force NTSC).

ok, so i found a good link to a gamma version. http://www.iol.ie/~taz/WiiHowToGamma.html

Will this gamma verison and the homebrew channal install that is avaliable at the link work on my NTSC wii with the version 3.3 firmware?

Also, which dvd media should i use? Dvd-r, Dvd+R or DVD-RW?

Heres a question for everyone in this thread. How many of you got your wii bricked by this and which part of the installation bricked it?

I have already linked this in my previous thread.

To avoid region brick look in the Ultimate Sticky guide section.

this is my last question. if i download a backup of my game from the internet, do i need to patch it to work on backup loader 0.3 gamma or can i just leave it as an iso and burn it on a disc?

thanks to everyone who helped me. :)

There is no need to patch the ISO however if it is a out of region game disc you might want to use WiiBrick Blocker on the ISO to avoid updating with the wrong firmware and possibly bricking/semi-bricking your system. More on this can be found in the Ultimate Sticky Thread.

Don't use RW media, it won't work. Use DVD-Rs. I use Verbatim DVD-Rs, and burn at 4x with IMGBurn, works perfect always.

Everyone should use the new Backup Loader 0.3 GAMMA Version, it works better and has higher backup compatability^^

Hi,
I have a very odd issue. I have NTSC console. it was a recent purchase.
I have couple of copies of games. Each one written on a dvd+r with dvd-rom as book type. Playo disc. I am able to play the games the first time around. I am talking 30 minutes or more. No problem. When I start wii next time to play, It gives a read error. Something like check manual there is a problem with your disc. I have no idea why this is happening. Do i need to upgrade the firmware? i have not connected it to the net ever. How do i find the firmware version?.

Games tried - animal crossing and mario party 8. BTW,the error i get is same but the background is game specific. So, the disc is read but something in the wii blocks it. Both are NTSC games.

@axe97
The Wii isn't meant to read DVD5s, so it makes those noises because the laser keeps 'stuttering' on the Disc or something. Don worry about it.

@javamaan
You should use DVD-Rs, DVD+Rs give problems, and DVDRWs don't work at all
also depends on your quality of blank media. I use Verbatim DVD-Rs, every game works perfectly.
