You need to install cIOS ver 7 for the gamma version to work. I don't think this guide has the updated ver 7 included.

Go HERE and download the files I have in this guide. Then run the cIOS installer again. This will install ver 7 of the cIOS over ver 6. After you do that try booting with the Gamma boot loader.
I think I've seen you post this 100 times....lol. Glad we're both nice.

Anyone have any idea if I'm okay to 'upgrade' to 3.3e ?

I downgraded to 3.2e to install homebrew (now get the impression that was unnecessary) and that and backup launcher work fine.
Am I now able to go back top 3.3e with no problems?
Is there any point in going to 3.3e from 3.2e?
Thanks.

Yea 3.3e works fine with the launcher, and installing wads etc....

So yes you can, but to be honest there is no need.

Mario Kart can be fussy, u need the cios so leave it installed.

For Mario Kart get yourself some good disks (verbatim, or Ritek), and burn the game as slow as possible

Thanks senzafine :)

Then I'll leave well alone as it all works and I don't appear to be missing anything from 3.3e at the moment.. (also I wouldn't know how to install it without messing it all up I guess(!)).

Re DVDs - I use cheap Tesco DVD-R 8x - burnt ISOs with imgburn at 4x and had no problems at all.

cheap ones do work most of the time, i buy cheap ones whenever possible, but for some reason some games are funny with certain discs.

Try re-burning if you got 8x discs will they burn at 2x with ImgBurn?

I also read somewhere that I had to play ntsc games on this because I have the usa version, that pal games will brick the wii, is this true? I can find a lot more pal games than ntsc.

Sorry for filling up the forum, Im a noob, I will figure this thing out soon enough

I have never had problems with NTSC on pal. I don't no if the reverse is true, but I never heard of games brickin. What u have to watch for is pal games with firMware updates on them. Bcos a pal update on a NTSC wii may cause a brick.

How can you tell if there is a firMware update on the game?

Now I remember why I downgraded 3.2e..(!)

You can (I believe) use Starfall to make the Wii region-free and also to make the wii skip the update check.

Maybe someone can confirm this as I'm pretty new to hacking the wii.

what is going wrong?:(

Few things I don't understand. I've use 3.4 on all wii's I've modded and all work 100%. I would personally update to 3.4, run the oct. 23rd fix and install ciosv7. Then use wii gator 0.3 to run backups. Starfall wont' work forever and new games won't run on 3.2 anyway.

"update to 3.4, run the oct. 23rd fix and install ciosv7"

Sounds like a good plan (if it doesn't screw it all up) -

So... (I'm so dumb - trouble is there are so many guides for this and they're all slightly different - think that's why many people get confused(?))... if I upgrade to 3.4 , then I have to reinstall homebrew.. (which would be a pain as I no longer have TP (loaned from work colleague)).

I'm pretty sure you won't need to reinstall homebrew. The most confuson is when you have to use the downgrader for ios. People skip this step (which is most important) because they think it's a firmware downgrader. If homebrew is already installed, I think you need to use the cios uninstaller to uninstall any cios installed. Make sure you update first. Then you need to get the ios 257 wad and install that with WAD manager 1.3. After that run the cios fix. Then run the ios downgrader 1.0 to install the proper ios files. Then install ciosv7. Then you'll be rockn on 3.4 and playing backups. Make sure you use wii gator 0.3 to load them.

Great! Thanks for those details.

I think a lot of confusion arises in that I haven't actually seen (yet) any details on what these ios/cios things are (I guess different files patch different bits of the OS) and then what a WAD is, etc.

Usually I take time to understand these things - especially as I have in the past hard-modded an xbox & ps2 - so you need to understand a bit more. Soft-modding can be done with very little knowledge...

I had a hard time fiding the wad file I needed. I found one that is all the same as the tutorial but it doesnt have the "prod" in it. Is this the right file? Stinks to hit a bump in the road just as I am getting started. Searched for one that does have the prod in the file name and cant find it.

what wad file exactly do you need? Did you google it? Torrent sites were my best luck for the wad files. Go to mininova.org

There will be a few links to download it there.

What am I doing wrong?
I get a could not find subsystem with
and Error with Gator?

How can't I figure out how to get any game to play?
