Good day to you all, I would like to start with mentioning how much of a newb I am to this...
I am basically trying to do two things:
1- I have a 1080p .mkv and would like to burn it on a dvd-5 and play it on my PS3 without loosing any video quality (I heard its possible for the PS3 to play this as a data dvd)...also the file is 12gbs in total would I be able to just put it on 3 different dvd-5s?
2- I have a 720pWMV and I would like to pretty much do the same (be able to burn it on a dvd-5 and play it on my ps3 without loosing any quality). However, this clip I have is much smaller its about 500mbs..
Im really sorry for my questions once again and plz if someone can give me a good detailed way of doing this I would very much appreciate it!
I have used ConvertXoDVD to convert the Blu-Ray Hi-Def rips and burn them onto a standard DVD-5.
Of course some loss in Audio/Video is expected since the highly compressed H.264/AVC codec in MKV file would be converted to loosely compressed MPEG-2codec for being compatible to standard DVD specification. To fit a not so compressed MPEG-2 file on a DVD-5 some loss is to be tolerated though.
muggsie, it's great that you're just telling him what you think is best. Way to go.
RaMMuT, for your mkv file, you can use tsMuxer to create a Blu-Ray folder for burning onto a DVD.
when you load your mkv file into tsMuxer, there's a split and cut feature, so you can just set it to cut the file into 4GB chunks. Then you'll get three separate BDMV (I think) folders which you can burn to a DVD-5 using ImgBurn (...or Nero, if you're so inclined). ImgBurn will prompt you to use some UDF 2.5 or something. Click "yes" for this part.
As for your .wmv file, I THINK the PS3 can read the .wmv format, so you could try just burning it onto a CD and popping it in. It'll pop up on your XMB as a Data Disc.
Hope that helps. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.
