Playboy moves to digital, drops DVD

article published on 18 October, 2008

Here begins the exodus of dvd to more restrictive anti-consumer formats. lets hope that companies play fair, and don't implement pay per play, or long term rental esk types.

Hope they are ready for the massive drop in sales and increased piracy of their titles... Not that they interest anybody on this site (ahem)

Next we will have the "my playboy burned disk is stuck in the ps3 drive... save me before the wife comes home with the kids" posts

my daughter is more likely to find my history and cookies stored on my pc, or any emails sent like "thank you for registering your account" or "playboy your payment is due" ect, than a dvd hidden somewhere.

Why are you posting a link to a porn site? I'm sure you know that AD is used by a lot of underage people.

Ya its easy enough to find if you simply call it by name minus the web address...what was I saying again LOL

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

I'm sure it is easy enough to find, but there's no point in handing it to kids, or putting the idea in their heads in the first place.

whats wrong with porn, as long as the parties in the said videos are not being exploited against their free will?

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it per se, as long as it is between consenting adults and it is adults watching it is their own business, i said that a lot of underage people use this site and it isn't appropriate in my opinion to be posting links to porn for them to access.

My 13 year old daughter has an account on AD and i certainly wouldn't be impressed if i thought she was accessing that kind of site.

My (very young) kids often have a look-see what i'm posting/looking at on Afterdawn, i certainly won't be amused if they inadvertantly click on links that shouldn't have been posted...

absolutely nothing in most cases - only problem is playboy isn't porn - I mean if you like porn fair enough go get your porn but why buy overpriced products where they only pretend to do it and wrap it up in a sickly chocolate box producton of soft focal lenses , surgically altered models and soft supermarket music ?

i always thought playboy was where male porn actors went when they couldn't get it up any more because in playboy they aren't allowed to anyway - equally a good studio for very attractive but frigid females who don't want to get poked for real but who are good at faking it

I wonder if these digital downloads are going to be in HD? If so IMO porn does not look to good in HD. I don't want to see all those pimples and shaving bumps.

Everyone is missing the point...
Playboy has admitted that physical media is not profitable and digital media is.
Where the porn industry goes, the rest of the world will follow.

DVD's and Blueray's are obsolete.

However, this does not always apply. For example, I am a 16 year old boy, who, admitidly watched porn. My point is that playboy didn't sell DVD's in Britain, that i have seen anyway (trust me I have looked... I have the Glasgow barras to look through) This is a big market that they could have exploited. They haven't. So if playboy went out of buisness, say tomorrow, it wouldn't make a differnce to the many people who watch porn daily. Yes, Monty Python DVD's would not be sold anymore (made by playboy).

My point is that: not every person in the world watches playboy, so why fret about it going to digital. Someone somewhere will just put it onto the previously mentioned porn site, and playboy lose money anyway.

BTW that site, doesnt work, tried it ages ago...could get ANYTHING to work

The whole article was about Playboy, so what's your point? Are you implying that they need to edit this entire article as well? They did link everyone to Playboy DOT COM. Sure Playboy isn't as hardcore as youporn, but it still has nudity.

You really should set them up their own login with some internet filtering ;) I install this http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ for people with kids on request.. Seems to do a pretty good job when I was testing... though as a crafty adult I managed to get my fill of everything I wanted with some thought.
