Mounting a memory stick on PS3 ubuntu

Im trying to get Ubuntu on the PS3 to recognize the memory stick, it keeps saying unable to mount as it uses vfat which is not supported.
I just want to be able to copy files to and from the memory stick. The memory stick is a PSP memory stick duo and its inserted into the SD slot in the 60gb PS3.
Sorry, I dont remember the ubuntu version I have since I installed it ages ago.
I tried this command in the terminal:
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mmnt/sda1

but it says mount point does not exist.

I finally managed to get wireless on ubuntu working somehow so surely accessing a memory stick cant be too hard?

If anyone could help me in any way I'd be very grateful.
