Since my PS3 is pretty much shot...I was wondering if there was anyway to reformat the HDD of the PS3 and load a clean image onto it. My PS3 isn't recognizing the HDD so its not even booting up. I want to know if its possible to take a working PS3's HDD and image that to mine that isn't working???

Has anyone done this? Would someone be willing to? My 80GB HDD is formatted to FAT32, but still I get nothing on the PS3. Should I try a new HDD all together??? My PC acts like the drive is fine.

How'd you format it? Did you use the PS3 to format it or a PC?

Also, if your PS3 just isn't booting up at all, then the problem isn't with your HDD. The PS3 OS is stored on the motherboard, I believe, not on the HDD. So it could be a shot motherboard.

But don't take my word for it.

I formatted on a PC.

I read that reformatting the HDD had solved some users problems with the 2.42 update. It just made mine worse. I am trying to find someone with a working PS3 to see if I can drop my HDD in there and have it recognize it a reformat it. I don't even know if that will work, but its about all I have left.
