okay i got a hp computer that has av ports in the front of the main unit, the red yellow and white ones, can i hook up my ps3 to the main unit and play it through windows media center or something? i tried plugging the av plugs in but it didnt work video or sound didnt come up
It depends on if those are inputs or outputs. Even if you can play it through there, I wouldn't. You're only going to get 480i at best so it should look pretty aweful on the screen. Sorry for the bad news.
Download some sort of tv tuning software. Hauppaugh? And set those inputs as the source. Should work but I have never tried. Did you get the 22 or 24 inch monitor by HP also? those have HDMI inputs.
Theres likely some kind of software that came with the pc for it. I'd open up the side of the case and see if the AV cords run to the mobo or a graphics card and go from there. I'd search through the installation disks first though to see if theres software for it in there.
Hang on a sec, you're trying to play your PS3 through the component connection on the same monitor you use your computer on?
Is there a button called "Source" or similar on your monitor? You should be able to tell the monitor to use the component connection (the red/white/yellow connectors) to see your PS3 input. You won't be able to see your computer's display while you're doing that, though.
Your link shows me the computer itself, but doesn't say what monitor it comes with, what model is the display? Does it have built in speakers? If it doesn't you'll have to get a bluetooth headset to hear the PS3.
If your PC goes to the monitor via Dsub then just get a HDMI to DVI-D cable (I use this for my 2nd PS3 on my Samsung monitor) or adapter then use the standard AV cable to go to your PC for audio and setup up the display correctly in the PS3 video setup options (720p will do perfectly). Here is a place to get it for like $3 http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...&seq=1&format=2
