My PS3 has recently decided to stop reading discs, and it's out of the warranty period, so I opened it up, wiped the lens with some lens cleaner and a q-tip, but when i put it all back together,
the ps3 thinks that it has a disc inside, but it doesn't.
I opened it up again, then things got really bad.
The two clips that hold the disc in place fell out, and now I'm stuck
with a PS3 with no blu-ray reader.
My questions are:
1) Can I buy a whole new blu-ray drive, with the housing?
2) If I send it in to Sony, will they fix it even though I voided the warranty by opening the PS3 up?
3) Is it worth the 170 dollars that I'm going to have to pay?
Have you tried speaking to a local pc repair shop they might be able to repair the drive or if worst comes to worst replace it for you. I dont think Sony would replace the drive for you even if you supplied it as the ps3 is out of warranty.
Before you get too worried, what clips are you talking about. Just about everything inside the PS3 comes apart and can go back together.
Are the clips you're talking about the two triangular shaped ones closest to where the disk feeds into the drive? If so, they just pop back on there, just make sure the springs are still there, they just need to site on a little tab on the triangular pieces. There are a number of tutorials around to help you, too.
