Hi im struggling to get surround sound on ps3!!! Telly has 2 hdmi points im running 1 hdmi lead from home cinema to tv and getting surrond sound ok!! Then 2nd hdmi lead from ps3 to tv getting sound from tv but not surrond sound on ps3.The home cinema only has 1 hdmi point So am i right in thinking if i get a digital audio cable and connect to home cinema this will solve my problem.And what chages to ps3 settings should i make regards Rhinogolf

Lets clear this up a bit to make it easier to understand. you currently have

1) Cable/Satellite (HDMI) going to
2) Surround System (with only 1 HDMI in/out) going to
3) TV that has 2 HDMI's in

If that is correct you have 2-3 choices.

1) If your Surround System has an additional input that is Optical then you could use this and connect your PS3 to that

2) Get an HDMI selector switch to go before the Surround System that has your devices connect to first. Then just choose which input line you need to use

3) If you are using a Cable/Satellite Receiver and which ever one you have has a digital audio cable out, then bypass the Surround System and go straight to the TV via HDMI to then use the digital audio cable to the Surround System & then use the PS3 with HDMI to the Surround System then to TV

Hope that helps and isn't too confusing. But please make sure to reply with what additional inputs your Surround System & other devices may have so we can better resolve your issue. As if you don't have digital audio cable on the Surround OR the Cable/Satellite then your only choice would be either Optical or a selector switch since the PS3 does not support digital audio cable.

Yes thats correct so if i purchase digital optical audio cable and run that from ps3 to surround sound i should be up and running!!

Sorry for been a pain do i need a optical audio cable or is it Digital optical audio cable????Have been reading through some forums and some say digital and some do not

Got the optical cable,still getting no surround sound only sound from telly which i was getting before i got cable,surround sound works on everyting else ie dvd,sky,normal telly any ideas.

Did you select the correct audio out in the PS3's options? You also have to make sure it is set to bitstream. As well as select the correct audio options on your Surround Sound. Check the manual link below for a better description for the PS3 stuff

Got it thanks for your help was missing the bitstream.Well worth the wait just had motorstorm on awesome.
If any1 has the same problem this is how my ps3 is connected to the surround sound
ps3 connected to hdtv by hdmi cable

ps3 connected to surround sound reciever by digital optical cable

surround sound reciever connected to hdtv by hdmi lead

then just change settings on ps3 to hdtv to hdmi sound setting to optical lead and bitstream on your surround sound.

so what are the best games for surround sound
