Hi, i recently sold my Xbox 360 as i'm more media based and hate the noise, expensive add ons and the general poor quality of microsoft products etc and i wanted an HDMI connection but i love certain games and the controllers.

I'm not interested in bashing consoles but in unbiased opinions about the pro's and cons of each console.

I've become confused about what is the best one for games, and if the differences are that great if any on the graphics side, the reasons i ask are, i sold my Xbox 360, games, and the components seperately, and everybody who came round said they had just sold there PS3 and bought the 360 because the Xbox was better.

I have watched comparisons and the PS3 does seem very soft and washed out, i also have seen call of duty 4 both online, the Xbox 360 was far sharper and detailed, must admit a wanted the PS3 to be equal if not better.

Rainbow six is one of my favourites, is this a good game on the PS3 and how does GRAW compare to the 360 version, thanks.

If you have an HDTV there will be no "washed out or soft" look to the PS3. Online comparisons (especially from GameTrailers & some Euro sites) have been documented & proven to be biased in their recordings. My best suggestion is to find a friend who has a PS3 and ask him to bring it over to your house so you can make a proper evaluation for your decision. If it ends up not suiting your needs then the 360 or even the Wii might be better for you.

I have to add that COD4 for the PS3 is no less than it is for the 360. Many reviews support this as well as many gameplayers of both systems (I myself can confirm there is no difference for both). This from my understanding goes equally for GRAW & GRAW 2 as well as RBS Vegas & part 2. I may be mistaken for the last ones but if there are any differences it really should not be of an issue because of the additional factors like free online play & stability of the hardware to be able to enjoy the games you want to play.

Each console has it's strengths and weaknesses but it all boils down to a couple of things (well to me at least)

Quote:
1) the devs

2) console capabilities

3) console reliability
Hands down Sony has much more support and much more total exclusives lined up for the PS3.

Both consoles have great multimedia capabilities but the PS3 edges out because of more divx support, web browsing capabilities, Blu-Ray, PSP integration and some other items

As for reliability the PS3 is well within (actually well under) industry standards whereas the competitor cannot say this (I will not go into RROD, Scratch Disc & other failures to avoid arguments) but failure rate numbers support what I have said for both sides.

Look either way if you choose a PS3 or a 360 you will have access to many great games, be it exclusive or multiplatform. Just keep on doing some research and I am sure you will come to the proper decision that best suits your needs.

Thanks for your reply, it was very well written and informative and most of all unbias, i did assume a lot of the on-line comparisons would be bias and there's so much console bashing for reasons i just don't understand.

I most admit that the Xbox was just to noisy for me, especially when playing quiet role playing games, unreliable, i now only to well.

I guess it was some of the so called unbias on-line comparisons that had me worried and one article i read by a games programmer who said they were confused as to why sony had used this new chip, making it extremely difficult for them to programme it and they would have to learn new programming langauge.

So perhaps the PS3 true potential has yet to be even touched given it's all new technology, i must admit the PS3 is class compared to the Xbox and i like my media so it's well suited for me, controllers though i'd say Xbox, love those big old triggers!

For the most part, IMHO, PS3 is a more 'adult' oriented system while the 360 tends to be more 'kid-friendly'.

I, too, have read the back and forth about graphics quality, but it is my understanding that the PS3 has more advanced graphics capabilities (although they may only be noticed by true graphic-o-philes), and as such, it's usually in the eye of the beholder.

If you can get your hands on one to try, please do so. I have yet to look at a PS3 game and say to myself "man, they really could have made that look better".

Amen, brother. Kid-friendly as in LIVE is loaded with a load of pre-pube kids who feel the need to audition for American Idol over their headsets.

Honestly though rogue20, you'll go nuts trying to fine pick the details of which console is better. Both are great. Both have pros and cons.

Anymore, I say grab the one your friends are playing online with and have fun, man.

Funny we were just having this discussion at work with a co-worker that can't decide between the 360 and PS3.
Like Oner wrote, both consoles has its strengths and weaknesses. IMO the PS3 despite the price wins hands down in overall value.
Free online gaming, HDD is cheap to upgrade as its takes a laptop HDD. With the PS3 you don't have to buy Sony brand peripherals which is great. The fact that I can use any blue tooth or USB headset is awesome. This is the same with the keyboard. I love that Sony took this approach. I have all 3 consoles and I use the PS3 the most.

Did you post this in the 360 forum aswell? if not then you already answered your own question.

Well not really, i wanted an HDMI connection and had chosen to buy the PS3 for many reasons but became concerned after going online and reading reviews and watching demo's or comparisons, but these were mostly personal opinions or trashing each console etc but left me with some doubts about the PS3.

Where i live, for reason a don't understand, and can't get a straight answer why, the PS3 is not available to view or play in any of the many stores which stock it, unlike the Xbox 360 and Wii which are always on show for the public to play demo's and view etc.

But my choice was the PS3 as i still think it's true potential has not even been touched due to the new hardware used and it's more media based with memory card slots, easy to upgrade the harddrive with out complex dismantling and software.

see the problem with me is that practically my whole school has a 360 with the exception for a few kids i dont talk to have a ps3. I would love to just pwn someone in a game and see them in class the next day. but the 360 has more people on it. so you might want to play with your friends. i have a ps3 btw
