If you save music, pictures, game installs and expansions; the % used will sneek up on you. If you dont do allot of these things, i would not worry about it. You wont get any performance increase from changing you HD to a larger one.

If you just got your PS3 and it's a 20gig, you may want to upgrade before you start loading the HD up. It's easy to swap HD's but to exchange info, you have to have an external HD to dump you HD info into and then to dump info back into new HD. I've had my 60gig since they first came out and have not filled it up yet but only have 20% space left.

I think its a 2.5 laptop HD. Any Brand, Sony does not lock you down to using their HD. I see many people putting 120 too 500gig HD in. You have to partition the drive. Thats easy. You use a program called Partition Magic. There is some type of limit on the size that each partition can be. Heard of some putting a 1TB in them. btw, no real benifit in getting a 7200rpm HD.

It's a 2.5", SATA note book drive.
If you buy one, Try and stick to the 5400rpm version.

I suppose I'll ask, because I'm curious, as well.

Why wouldn't one want to get a 7200 rpm model? Wouldn't that theoretically decrease load and/or read times?

The 7200rpm hard drives do generate a little more heat the the 5400rpm versions which have caused some heat issues with the PS3.

The load/read times might be .2 seconds faster with a 7200rpm drive.

I've seen the results on test comparing 7200rpm VS 5400rpm drives in the PS3. Very minimum load speed increase + slight temperature increase + higher price. No real benefit to getting the 7200rpm drive.

Just installed a W.D. 250 GB 7200 rpm Sata hard drive in my PS3. Used the restore function to save all my stuff and put it back after installing the new drive. Everything went without a hitch and I'm not noticing any heat issues either. Definitely faster seak times at least for me so I got to say it is worth it if your running out of room.

I put a 250 gig hard drive in my PS3. I take the dvds i buy and encode them to an mp4 format and watch them from the my ps3 hard drive so i dont have to switch in and out disks to watch my movies. It was worth it
