PS3 trophies will be mandatory beginning in 2009

According to VideoGamer, beginning in January 2009 all new Sony PlayStation 3 game releases will be required to support the popular Trophy system.
Despite being a rumor for a week or so, a Sony official has confirmed the information is correct, noting "Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies."

Yeah but you can make it more of a challenge for gamers, like i already beat Midnight Club LA, but i havent gotten all the trophies now i have to go back and its still fun.

LOL, Sony doesn't seem to be in a possition to make a godamn thing mandatory, until they make some better games other than the load of turtle sh!t games they and 3rd party developers have been making. They need to scrapp the whole Trophy anyways, it a wannabe achievements ripoff!

I suppose that since the ps3 runs off electricity as well that's also a rip off?
I still don't get where you guys are getting the ideas that all games on the ps3 are garbage.

Ok, making trophies mandatory is uhhhhhh a bonus I guess... but what is everybody talking about that the PS3 has no good games? What have you gamers been doing? Theres littlebigplanet, resistance 2, mgs4 and a others... You can't say theres NO good game for the PS3, the ones I have even mention are not good but great games. Are you blind or deaf to not notice these or is the fanboy tunnel vision seriously getting to you. I'm not trying to start anything, but it just piss me off when others say there is no good game for certain console.

Fanboy is becoming an old term. At this point, I'm just gonna call people ignorant when they favor ANYTHING to a certain extent. It's just a waste of your time. So are trophies, even though I don't mind them. They just make you want to get them.
And by the way, where the hell have you been to not notice that in every business, companies copy something from other companies to compete...

They're supposedly going to put in a reward system for people with higher lvls, what the rewards are going to be are yet to be seen. Though a lot of people think that its likely going to be items for home.

I don't think achievements are a waste of time... do you think gaming is a waste of time too? It's for entertainment, if people are entertained by getting trophies then that's extra fun time for them.

i disagree with you im afraid, i think that getting a high achievement is quite pointless in the real world. YOu get your little sense of satisfaction but what else?

Though I don't hate them, what's the point in getting them for a bad game?
If I was finished everything in a game like Far Cry 2, I might try and complete the trophy list, but if the game was bad I'd just put it away forever and forget all about it.
