:-) Ok, but my question still remains...
Are you playing your backups on XBL?
Plus, as anyone ever been banned with a modded Xbox but playing with an original? [just to get an idea on how safe everything is].
I'm still gonna modd mine anyway.

haven't been banned yet using backups. Just got a new 360 wit a lite-on. old was benq with 1.41-1.5 laterz

Yeah...your Sata cable is the cable you use between your PCI VIA 6421 and 360 drive.

ok modded another Lite On last night and had the same prob as before with the Lite On locking when doing the erase within JungleFlasher. Read my Key, Identity, and Enquiry then created the hacked dummy firmware in JungleFlasher. Got to the erase section and again the Lite-On didn't respond to the command and locked up. PC did not freeze as my VIA drivers were not installed as mentioned below. On the MTKFlash32 Tab i couldn't detect the drive when i selected DeviceID so here is what i did to resolve and flash.
1) Closed the Lite-On drive so it is not half open.
2) Turned off and on.
3) Using IPrep i made a bootable USB drive and placed the
l-o-erase.exe file on it. Once at the command prompt i typed l-o-erase bc00 (bc00 being my sata) it returned x80 so i continued this i think 4 more times before it returned x72. Now it was properly erased and in the state ready to be flashed. Booted back up into Windows loaded jungleflasher and on the Firmtool32 tab reloaded my key and lite on firmware. Spoofed sourced to target now i was ready to write.
4) Selected MTKFlash32 tab and then selected Device ID, turned off and on and it detected.
5) Selected write and it worked.

I skipped the part to uninstall all VIA drivers and this is where i went wrong.
Must do - At the very start where it says to Uninstall all via drivers do so and be sure to delete the viamraid.sys file out of your c:\windows\system32\drivers so that Windows doesn?t reinstall it. This is what i missed and was using the via driver causing the drive to lock and Windows freezing.
Search all drives for this viamraid.sys file and delete it or make a backup to a USB drive for older 360drive mods. You cannot have this file on your PC anywhere otherwise you VIA card will reinstall automatically on reboot. You want your VIA card to be displayed as RAID Controller with a yellow question mark as show in the guide (link provided above).
Once i did this and had PortIO installed, Jungleflasher was reading the drive and i was able to write the hacked FW on.
I read alot online with many people having this same issue.

what dose the lite-on drive look like in ck3 pro "Query Port" or can i just click on one and have a go to see if i can get the key.bin / inquiry.bin / identify.bin) . cheers

My elite has a benq and I had been running 1.41 since august of 2008 with no issues. I only play backed up games... no originals. I scan/fix all my games with abgx. Just updated to 1.5 on dec 23rd and still no problems. Same with my friends, no issues. They all have different drives, sammy,lite-on, and even hitachi running 1.4 and no problems with XBL. :D All of them running backed up games too.

I'll try to make a tut for the liteon on the steps that I took for this past one. But it will pretty much be in addition to everything that is out there. The tuts are pretty good.
Regardless, I'll try to make one based on what I did (when my liteon froze after the erase) sometime this weekend.

I had all sorts of problems with via card and onboard via. Just built a pc with nForce 730a chipset and I have not had a single problem since. I did 3 liteons and sammy today. No problems at all. Never had to reboot, never had to close JF... it all just worked. nForce is the way to go, imo. I can write a nForce tut if you want. I will post it tommorrow night if no one beats me to it.

I don't believe it's that different of a process. In fact, I think there are only extra steps that you have to perform if you have the via card (such as uninstalling drivers and checking the system32 folder). So I believe it should be the same, but I'll try to double check

I don't have the VIA card, and I'm having trouble finding one where I live (a cheap one at least).
A tut where I could use my nforce would be great.

gwho... you are right. the process is the same. also I do not run the nforce with sata drivers either. i believe the portio32 is doing it all for me, i could be wrong. But i am sure I have no "Raid Controller" driver. just set the sata to "sata" in the bios. nforce chipsets sometimes use the pci bus to emulate the sata and I have that disabled. I was just offering a step by step of my experience. I guess it may be a waste of time seeing the process is nearly identical.

Does it do the half open state automatically or is it something you have to do? I don't like how the guide just throws that one sentence in there by itself with no explanation. Thanks

the guide doesn't just say that. It says you have to eject your drive, power it off, and then push it halfway in yourself, then turn it back on.
if you missed that, I would definitely re read the tutorial, because if you miss steps, you're going to brick your drive.
