To the peeps asking about homemade spear/probe tools, all you need is a tiny piece of conductive material (I used a piece of a paperclip) that you tape across the two r707 points and gently press to connect when necessary. It's not the easiest way but it's basically free. The trick is placing the material perfectly on the two points so that you don't have to fuss when applying pressure. It's also advisable to tape the board around it so that you don't end up making a boo-boo.

I should have clarified: this method requires no wires at all, just the two points connected as described. It is not necessary to connect your ck3/xtractor/homemade tool. I was confused by this as it seemed too simple not to have to make another connection.

I have a friend that needs his Liteon flashed. When he gets back in town I will try this method and let you know how it goes.

So let me get this right, you just connect those two points, then hook the drive up via sata and you can dump the key?

If you have a CK3 or Xtractor just do this, splice wire #11 on the power cable from the CK3 or Xtractor to the drive solder a safety pin to the end of it as a probe. It's what I used on my Xtractor and works perfectly, http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=669364
Then all ya gotta do is probe the R707 via during the read key's section and you're set.

A bit off topic, but.. I'm trying to set my calendar in Windows, and I was wondering if anyone knew when "early January" is. And if it's actually a range of possibilities, what would be the last day one could convincingly argue was still "early January"?
And on-topic: What happens if one doesn't use a ground wire? I think I've heard 50/50 on this item; half say it's pointless.

I would guess early Jan would be before the 10th. Much later than that and some will call it mid Jan.
I haven't heard much about the ground wire. It was in the schematic I used and figured two extra pieces of wire were cheaper than a new 360 and PC. I believe in better safe than sorry. Error on the side of caution.

I just set the drive on top of my case so that they were grounded.

It might work but if your PC case is painted it might not ground as it has to be metal on metal contact unless I am wrong.

yes would have to be metal on metal contact to form a ground, so if the pc case is plastic it is pointless.

Mid January in my opinion would be around the 15th as there is 31 days in the month,so theoretically mid means 1/2 way but this could be argued against :)

I have not tried it yet but hope to this weekend. Based on all the other methods this should not work however a bumble bee should not fly either but does.

You're one funny fellow.
I agree, seems like that method would be the most preferred as it only requires a freaking paper clip to bridge 2 points and doesn't require a spear/probe for extraction.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......
I'd really like to see or read about a successful extraction and thorough explanation proving that method.
Could [Big_Green] please send me a Private Message or provide a link to the original source of the information/method?
Thanks

isnt that paperclip method that big green posted pretty much the same as the screw driver method the other guy posted. except he has swapped the paperclip for a screw driver?
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Link to that method please if you don't mind?
I've built my Spear/Probe but have come across so many Lite-On Extraction methods I'm dizzy.
Some say you have to cut your DVD-ROM cable to achieve the Half-Open status, some say you need to solder/bridge the TX.
-I don't want to solder my drive.
-I don't want to cut my DVD-ROM cable.
-I don't want to buy anything I can build with spare parts or that isn't even necessary to have.
Very confusing, I have a firm understanding of the flash portion it's just the hardware in question.
EDIT: I could not find the screwdriver method at least not within the 26 pages of this iXtreme 1.5 thread.

i don't believe this is true. the two points on the board are the serial interface. bridging the points is just an "electronic avenue" to the plug header. If it is true that the key is only dumped via conventional serial, as stated by the guys who hacked it, then bridging these two points alone will do nothing at all. Nothing! You would still need the xtractor/ck3 cable which has the last two pins of the cable header occupied. Then if you were not using an xtractor or ck3 you would still need means of delivering this serial information to your pc for interpeting. That is what the ck3/xtractor does..... correct me if I'm wrong.

It is true. This method has been done for a little while now (using a paperclip and I have also read about using a screw driver). I've never done this method, I prefer using the xtractor and spear for many reasons, however, this can be done. I've read a bunch about it at xbox-scene, so if you are wanting to learn about it, go check it out over there.

So far not having much luck flashing this sucker.
I built the spear and it appears to be constructed properly.
I have 5 volts from the Molex and 1.9v on my spear tip.
A little background on this X360:
Just bought it used.
Manufacture Date: 6/2006
DVD-ROM: 2008 Lite-On
The guy I got it from said he just got it repaired by M$ because of a faulty drive.
So I gather they replaced his original with a new Lite-On.
(It plays originals fine)
Testing the probe with Realterm using the Tek below and I get nothing.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s...0entry4340040
So my question is if I have 1.9 volts at the spear tip is it built correctly as know of no other way to test it?
I've tried using Dosflash16,Dosflash32,DVDKEY32,XtractorReader,JungleFlasher,CK3Tool.
No Go.
Always Invalid Key.
At the very least with CK3Tool I can get CCCCCCCCCCCs to populate but I still receive an Invalid Key at the end.
Anything I should try? Thanks guys.
And yes, the DVD tray is half open and I've tried multiple levels of Half-Open.

Once you have the tray half open, are you remembering to power it off then back on? It's a common missed step.

When you use DVDkey32, you probably already know this, but use it "within windows" through the DOS prompt, ya know, click start, run, type cmd and hit enter. Only other thing I can think of is that your sending the wrong port or com command, double check your sata port number by opening iPrep and hitting the question button on the main menu of the prog, this should tell you the sata port, it'll be the first 4 letters/digits, I think mine was DFA0, to double check your USB Com port when you plug it in or turn on your Xtractor, make sure you go to control panel, devices, and look at where it lists your USB devices, when it's turned on or plugged in, you'll see it pop up, for me it was Com 8. So, long story short, for me, my DOS command with DVDkey32 is as follows:
DVDkey32.exe DFA0 8
If that still doesn't give you results, try changing the sata port on the card (if it has 2 sata port inputs) and check the ports again to make sure nothings changed, and run it again.

Oh one more thing...try re-installing your Sata drivers, remove the viaraid.sys file from your comp, re-install PortIO drivers and give it a go again, it could be a PortIO prob as well.
Lastly, make sure you've downloaded the USB drivers for the Xtractor and installed them too. (which are found on the xtractor website)

I'll try redoing iPrep/USB and try dos boot.
I don't have any kind of Xecutor or anything.
Just spear, X360, and a pc.
If it's just having to power cycle the drive after the half open I'll be pissed.
So you're saying:
1. Power on the Xbox.
2. Eject the DVD-ROM.
3. Pull the power to the DVD-ROM
4. Push the tray half-way.
5. Add power.
6. Then power cycle again?
I'm already doing steps 1-5.
