I had the same problem but I was not cutting the power to the drive. If you are using the 360 as the power supply you will have to unplug the power from the drive and not shut the power off to the console. If you use the 360 power button the mobo will send the shut tray command and the drive will not be left half way out. Once I did this and reran DosFlash32 the key was displayed.

I don't have any kind of Xecutor or anything.

Just spear, X360, and a pc.

If it's just having to power cycle the drive after the half open I'll be pissed.

So you're saying:

1. Power on the Xbox.
2. Eject the DVD-ROM.
3. Pull the power to the DVD-ROM
4. Push the tray half-way.
5. Add power.
6. Then power cycle again?

I'm already doing steps 1-5.
I use the Xtractor, but I've never needed to power cycle after it's in half open status. Look below:

1. Power on the Xbox.
2. Eject the DVD-ROM.
3. Pull the power to the DVD-ROM
4. Push the tray half-way.
5. Add power.
6. Click Start, Run, type CMD, now your in a DOS popup menu, if DVDKey32 in a folder on your desktop type CD Desktop and that should change your directory to your desktop, from there type CD and whatever folder it's in, now you should be in the DVDkey32 folder and can see the DVDkey32 file if you type dir and hit enter. Now just type DVDkey32.exe (port #) (com #) while holding the spear in the hole.

If your not using the Xtractor, then your R707 may need to be bridged instead of probed, i'm not sure, I only know it works using the Xtractor, never tried to read keys without it.

Oh one last thing, since your using your Xbox to give power to the drive, make sure you are grounding your Xbox with your PC by either taping a conductive wire from the metal casing of the Xbox to the metal casing of your PC, or make sure both the 360 and the pc are touching metal together somehow, it has to do with the floating ground point and all that jazz.

Right.

If using the console for power, don't power it off. Only cut power to the drive.

My machine has 4 Sata ports and 1 ESata.

Only 1 COM port. (Enabled)

Uninstalled PortIO / Restarted /Reinstalled

Okay, this is my procedure thus far:

CK3Tool
1. Find System Ports
2. Query Ports
3. Port found (9C00)

XtractorReader
1. Search all Sata Ports and Scan for 360 drives.
2. Found PLDS on Base 9C00 / Ctrl 9880
3. Clicking Get Key fills the bottom screen with information about the correct drive (So I'm on the right SATA port).
--------------------

Now in DVDKey32
1. Power on the Xbox.
2. Eject the DVD-ROM.
3. Pull the power to the DVD-ROM
4. Push the tray half-way.
5. Add power.
6. Start / Run / cmd
7. cd c:\dvdkey32
8. (COMMAND) dvdkey32 9C00 1

And I get this:

Probe is at R707.

What version of DVDkey32 are you using?... is it 0.7? from here on the bottom of this page, http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EkFppEyyApfojHvjYV.php

The reason I'm asking is because it looks like it's asking for two more commands to be entered before you type your port and com number, see the usage example it gives? It shows command base control base, then port, then com...I've never seen that before, maybe someone can elaborate, maybe it's a vista thing?

FYI, I used the DVDkey32 0.7 prog off the link above and never recieved those command requests

Yeah, I guess I had an old version.

But now I am getting 000000000000000s.

My probe must be BS.

I guess I'll try to build another but I wish knew WTF was wrong with the one I have already.

I'll post a picture of what I've built and hopefully someone will take a gander.

How many time have you tried it? Your drive is half way out correct and plugged into a SATA port on your PC? Serial connection on tool is connected also?

At least your getting closer to success...not really sure if I can help ya much more, I only use the Xtractor, and if it's an issue of not having one I really can't be of much help, didn't even know ya could pull the key without it.

Finally got this biyatch flashed.

My first homemade spear was trash and wasn't working properly.

Possibly a bad NPN as that was the only component other than wire which was not brand new and harvested from a dead PSU.

DVDKey32 and JungleFlasher did the trick 1st try.

Extracted 3 times for good measure.

My Homemade Probe

ALL DONE.

There was a moment where I was going to call it quits but I had a feeling it was the probe malfunctioning.

Really appreciate all the help folks.

That's awesome. I'm glad to know there is another satisfied user. Your homemade tool looks about 90% better than mine. Good job man.

making your own isnt really that hard, its worth it in the end i think. it cost me about 10 bucks with everything included and i can make 5 of them. they might look crappy, but they dumped my key first try!

I just flashed my second Lite-ON and it all went smooth. I had manually installed the portio.dll that was included in Jungle Flasher 0.0.43. I used DVDKey32 from inside JF. Spoof all my info to a benq drive and worked fine. So I was ready to flash Lite-ON. Previously I had to use DosFlash 1.7 as my drive locked up windows when I tried to erase. This time I had the viamraid.sys deleted and it helped out a bunch. JF acted like it froze for a second but when I powered cycled it really quick and it returned with 0x72 status. Wrote firmware and then sent Outro/ATA Reset and all is good. Went a lot easier this time.

Just a couple of things that will make the process go a bit smoother.
1. Manually install the Portio32.dll through add hard ware wizard.
2. If using VIA 6421, uninstall the viamraid.sys file from C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers

Good Luck everybody, I hope this bit of info helps.
