Right now I have an xbox 360, and I'm thingking about buying a PS3. Could you please reply with the pros AND CONS of the PS3.

EDIT: I have also heard that the games are slow because the disc is so big and it's hard for it to find the info. Can someone confirm or deny this for me please?

PS3 Pro
- No yearly fees to play online
- Blu Ray player (will play VCD, DVD as well. It will also up convert DVD's)
- Wifi built in so you don't have to buy any additional Hardware (can be directly wired to the net if you chose to)
- Easily upgradable HDD. You don't have to buy a Sony specific HDD.
- You can share downloaded PSN games with friends ( If I were to buy a PSN game, I can give it to my family members with a PS3 or a friend. This has limits though)
- You can use any external HDD with the PS3
- you can use any headset with the PS3, blu tooth or USB
- You can install linux in the PS3 ( in a sense you have a PC and game console)
- very small failure rate 1% to 3%
That's all the pros I can come up with.
CONS
- It is the priciest of the 3 consoles out there but to be fair it does comes a lot out of the box compared to an arcade 360. I personally think that $399 for the 80GB is not bad.
- It has not been hacked ( I don't know if this should really count as a con but I guess to some it is.)
All I can think of for cons.

I just posted something about this somewhere else so I'll post it here as well.

Quote:
I'll explain it as easily as I can in "laymen's" terms so to say

CD @ 52x = DVD @ 12x = BD @ 2x

Now the CD part is actually a bit off since it still doesn't have the throughput but the speed is what helps it. But the truth is speed means nothing in this equation. BANDWIDTH throughput does. A bigger pipeline always wins over small fast one and BluRay is MORE than capable. It basically comes down to CAV vs CLV if you want to learn more about it try Wiki or Google.
As for additional Pro's here are some

- PSP integration & remote play
- PS1 & PS2 backwards compatibility (depending on which one you buy but the PS2 ones are getting REALLY hard to find)
- Web Browse the internet right on the XMB
- Besides using any BT headset you can use keyboards & mice plus their USB counterparts.
- HDMI 1.3 highest standard available
- If you are in the EU you have PlayTV available (record, play, stream live broadcast TV with your PS3. Additional peripheral needed)
- 1st and 2nd party developers. Sony have the largest stable of in house devs in the industry (including EA and Activision, who also have large stables) Sony has more studios than MS and Nintendo COMBINED.

Those are a few more and the only additional Con I can think of is that the PSN is only slightly behind LIVE! But with consistent FW upgrades by Sony it is always improving with new features and add ons.

Along with the pros and cons can anyone tell me what the main type of games are for the PS3 (ie. for the 360 most games are shooters).

Also, how much better are the graphics on the ps3 compared to the 360?

On the graphics department. I find that first party PS3 games have churned out better graphics compared to 3rd party developers. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword have been praised by the industry for having top notch graphics. It is true that there are a lot more shooters on the 360 but the PS3 is not that far behind. I do find that there are a lot more none shooter based games coming out for the PS3. White Knights Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Infamous, God Of War 3 to name a few.
Graphics being better on either the 360 or the PS3 sometimes comes down to the game developer. Infinity Ward is an excellent example of a studio not taking the "the PS3 is to hard to develop for" excuse.
When I go to sites that compare PS3 and 360 graphics. I find that the most common difference between the 2 is brightness. GTA IV seem brighter on the 360 compared to the PS3. Graphics on both the games were pretty much the same for GTA IV.

I posted these pics in another thread but I think they speak for themselves.

Already available

Coming soon

And my personal favorite coming in February

And that is just the beginning of what is possible. And all those games have the gameplay to match...they are not just "pretty" ;)

No MGS4 shots, Oner? Shame... :)

Anyway, to add to the cons -

- It's the priciest console, like Bawango said. Regardless of what it offers out of the box, it's still the priciest.
- PSN is not nearly as popular as Xbox Live, contrary to what Oner said. You won't find nearly as many of your friends on PSN as on Live.
- The web browser isn't nearly as effective as PC browsers if you don't have the money to buy a wireless keyboard/mouse.
- Which reminds me: In order to fully utilize the PS3, you'll have to fork out a lot of money. HDTVs, surround sound systems, peripherals, games, etc.

Pro regarding that last con -

- In all fairness, you need to spend lots of money to enjoy the other two systems, as well, so... yeah.

I never stated anything about how the PSN is better or more popular than LIVE! I said it will get better with FW updates which is absolutely true. And where you have more friends is also a bit subjective as I am actually ahead on my PS3 than with my 360.

Better than having no browser at all. Especially with being able to use Hulu or other similar sites. And again FW updates constantly improve this feature.

The same would hold true for the 360 then as well, so how is that a Con against the PS3 when this is pro vs cons for PS3 & 360? And you honestly can't include games as that is a given. You have to BUY games to play them no matter what.

1. My bad, but the "PSN is only slightly behind LIVE!" made me assume you were talking about popularity. Even then, Live does edge out PSN in terms of... general quality... I guess? The PSN's getting better with updates, yes, but it's still not as fleshed out as Live is. Subjectively, of course. You're right on that part.

2. Also true. But I'm just pointing out stuff. I'm not saying it's a cool feature. I'm just saying it's not implemented as well as on a PC, s'all.

3. It's not about the pros and cons of PS3 and 360, just pros and cons of PS3. So I'm just pointing out a con of the PS3. I mean, I made sure to mention that it was also something all the consoles deal with. I just felt like pointing it out, that's all. I dunno. Maybe it was an issue the guy was really worried about. If I really wanted, I could've said that by not having to buy straight from Sony for all the stuff (the HDDs, headsets, etc. that you and Bawango mentioned), he would pay much less compared to the same items for the 360, much of which are developed and (I say) vastly overpriced by Microsoft. As far as games go, I could be snarky and say, "Well, you don't HAVE to buy games for the 360 and Wii..." but that'd just be low. :P

CON = Don't get your hopes up if you see a game you like and want to buy because it will almost certainly get delayed!

I've had a Delaystation 3 since launch and have been let down time after time...BUT...in its defence when the games do finally get released they normally live upto expectations and it does make a very good media player (DVD, Blueray and XVID) it streams well from my PC's.

Since release the PS3 has improved alot, there was a time when there were no games getting released, no updates on PSN (And if they did release something it would be on the US store not the European store) but it is slowly getting better. But most of all (as metioned above) if you have any experience with XBL you will be dissapointed with PSN multiplayer games on the PS3 may be free (no subscription) but they have many many problems.

In conclusion the biggest factor of all when deciding to buy a PS3 is this, I bought a PS3 at launch and it has never failed once! When compared to my 360 which I bought at launch has been replaced 4 times and have been without it for 10 weeks altogether.

So I would reccommend getting a PS3 as things are getting alot better than they where at launch, and if your concerned about the expense just think back how much they were at launch, and if you buy one now you can actually play on it, not like in the begining when I played Motorstorm for 3 weeks then it collected dust untill Everybodys Golf.

Please refrain from fanboy terms such as "Delaystation" they along with "fanboy rants" are not allowed here on aD. Which is why we don't have the usual problems most other gaming sites have so lets keep it that way please. Thanx.

You have a point but it doesn't need to be expressed in that manner. So while agree there have been SOME delays with SOME titles I would rather have something that is tested & works than something that is seriously broken. Look at how bad Gears 2 multiplayer matchmaking is currently or how the "no wall" glitches hurt the experience. Or even how Socom was to an extent early on (though I never had the issues that people described).

Gross exaggeration IMO. I can only think of 2 PS3 games that was delayed on the PS3. That was LBP (you all know why) and Haze which was a downer when it came out. That's why developers announce game release dates they are more broad with it. GOW3 is stated in late 2009 so that's anywhere between September through December 2009. Also as much as delays suck I personally rather have a game that a excellent had been ryn through the gauntlet than a rushed one.

I read that God of War 3 is coming out in March 2009.. Or did I read it wrong..? Or did the devs for GOW3 change the date?
