I'm planning to buy a ps3 for a while and have some questions.
I was thinking about the 60gb model but if it really worth it? I've tried kijiji and craigslist but most of them are more expensive then a brand new 80gb with about 4 games

Is does the 80gb support ps2 and ps1? I've read somewhere the the MGS4 ps3 was the last one that came out that supported ps2/ps1

as for ports what does the new 80gb have? cause i dont plan on buying a wireless router for it and i heard sony took a lot of the usb ports and memory sticks out

Also How can it also be a pc too? like can u go on msn on it download stuff on the internet etc

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

-Worth is all up to you. Keep in mind that all other versions of the PS3 that came after the 60GB was discontinued only offers software emulation for PS2 games. The "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU was removed from the 80GB PS3 version that was bundles with either Motostorm 1 or MGS4.

- The only 80GB PS3 that has backwards compatibility to PS2 games ar the ones that was bundled with Motostorm 1 or MGS4 (the games were packed in the box.)

-Current PS3 only have 2 USB ports. The PS3 has built in Wifi and and Ethernet port so you can connect wired or wireless to the net. The 40GB,80GB (no games bundled) and 160GB have no card readers.

Also How can it also be a pc too? like can u go on msn on it download stuff on the internet etc
-Its a PC too because you can install Linux in the PS3.Y I have not installed Linux on my 60GB as I have no knowledge of Linux. Its safe to assume that you would have to have Linux installed in the PS3 before you can install MSN or whatever its is you want from the net.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_3#Retail_configurations

That should answer most of your questions regarding the ports and WiFi and stuff.

That said, I'd base your purchase more on whether you've actually got a library of PS2 games that you still want to play than anything else. If you do, then the 20/60/80 GB models oughtta do you fine, but if not, then feel free to start fresh with a new model PS3.

I dont have any ps2 games never really owned any system cept for the portable ones
but since ps2 has the largest library of games i thought id try to get one.

does the newer version of the 80gb have any memory card slots? like SD

Edit: At future shop i read this
The PS3 is also equipped with 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound capabilities. All you have to do is connect your console to a Dolby 7.1 capable audio/video receiver and boom you're assaulted with a wall of the sharpest, most refined sound imaginable.

Does that mean i can put 5.1-7.1 speakers on the ps3? or is there a attachment i have to buy

the ps3 can output 5.1 Dolby Digital through optical cable and HDMI leads and 7.1 Dolby true HD/DTS Master Audio through HDMI only.
you will need an AV receiver capable of handling the formats and preferably with HDMI video output. like this one: AV Receiver

I would also fork down the extra cash for a extended warranty. My blu-ray drive died and I was lucky enough I used common sense when I bought it to get the extended warranty,so I got it replaced and I have a warranty on it for the next 3 yrs.

o ok so to get any speakers on the ps3 i would have to pay an extra 200-400+ buying some addon

What the price range you guys would pay for a used 60gb ps3 that can play the ps2/ps1 games?

im not a fan of ebay
anything else?
ive checked craigslist and kijiji
most of them are over 600

i just dont think people would buy 60gb ps3s and not open it just waiting to sell it for 500-1000 a few years later

Well, they're getting increasingly rare, so I wouldn't be surprised if you got it for somewhere in there. Me, I was fortunate enough to get a 60GB model with some extras for around $420. Off of EBay, no less.

So you could try looking elsewhere, but they're still going to be expensive. They definitely won't be selling for as little as the new 80GB models ($399?).

...unless you're hardware-smart and decide to get a broken 60GB and fix it up.

That link was just to give you an idea of the price.

Here you go, Amazon is a trusted site.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-P...29985084&sr=8-4

BUT... It costs more than $450.
Just type in 'PS3 60GB' in the Amazon search bar again and have a look there.
