-PS3 (80GB w/ current Firmware) connected to TV (Panasonic TH-42PX60U) through standard component cables and newly purchased (and tested with other devices) HDMI cord.
-TV set to Video 1 (component cables)
-Access Display settings menu via XMB
-Changed cable type to HDMI -Using TV remote scroll through display menu until I reach HDMI
-No sound or video displayed
-Scroll back to Video 1 and hit O on Controller (to exit HDMI mode)
-Picture returns
This Youtube video illustrates my exact problem (although with a different TV). The video author says he had to RMA his PS3. See anything I may be doing wrong or have suggestions of things I can try I would like to avoid that outcome.
After playing around with it for hours I'm more confused, I have gotten to the point were I get the message, an HDMI device has been detected should the unit use it for Audio / Video. I change to HDMI mode on my TV and then hit ok and I get a blank screen. Without reseting the video settings by holding the power button if I try to then display my video through component cables on Video 1 I don't get a picture either so I assume some settings have been changed but still no picture.
On the playstation forums I can see that other people are using this TV fine, I wonder what is going on.
is the tv hdmi+hdcp compliant? if not IT WONT WORK. you should just use component cables. I spent hours messing with my setup. the PS3 wont allow connection to a non hdcp compliant device for copyright issues. you lose a few upscaling features, but still looks pretty damn sweet.
I have the exact same TV and it works perfectly fine. When I got the PS3 I didn't even plug in the component cables, I just used a HDMI cable, switched my TV to HDMI 1 and turned on the PS3. When the PS3 turned on it went to display settings and it asked me if I wanted to show in 1080p, I just set 720p as maximum resolution and that's it. You should try resetting your system settings and just plug in the HDMI by itself and then turn it on.
Don't know if you got it working yet, but just got a new 42PX80U, and had a similar problem when i first hooked it up. After reading the owners manual, it said, if you don't have a signal from a particular device then you should do the following:
1. Turn your TV off.
2. Hook up your PS3 to your TV with the HDMI cable.
3. Turn on your PS3, and wait 15-20 seconds.
4. Finally, turn your TV back on.
Next, you would obviously filter through your inputs until you reach the one that corresponds to where you hooked up your HDMI cable(HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.), then hit OK. Hopefully, this will clear it up for you. If not, then hopefully someone else might know the answer.
