It was the day of Christmas when my ps3 "STOPED" reading discs.I have a 40gb ps3 not even a year old. i turned on my ps3 put the gta4 game in, it loaded up all the way (working perfectly fine) i go online mode and the game froze. so i couldn't do anything so i powered it off and started the ps3, i try to play the game but nothing will appear on game i could see that circle thing on the top right hand corner spinning but, the game would load up so i unplug every thing from the ps3 and opened it up, i cleaned the laser and cleaned all the dust. while the ps3 cover is open i put in the game and the ps3 wouldn't spin the disc.
if any of you guys know what the problem is please HELP ME!!!!
thnx

Sounds like your blu-ray drive has died.
As the console is less than a year old, you could have had sony fix it for you, or exchange your console for a new one...However, since you opened it up, you would be very lucky of they will do anything about it now, as you have voided your warrenty.
Give sony a ring first, and see what they say. Also, have a read through this thread, which may help.
Good luck, hope you sort it out!
EDIT: Fixed link.

If you dont have a receipt, you could try using a bank/credit card statement if you used a card as your prrof of purchase.
Alternatively, you could contact the store that you bought the console from, they may be able to provide you with a till reciept if you can provide them details of the date/(approx) time you bought the console. Sony will do nothing without some sort of proof of purchase.
If you can get some proof of purchase, you could try not telling sony you've opened it up. You can then post it off to them, and hope they fix it for you anyway.
You will need some proof of purchase for sony to do anything though.
If you cannot get sony to fix it, you could either pay someone to fix it for you, or read through the link i posted before and try to fix it yourself.

Sony told me they would not repair a console with the warranty sticker removed.
I'm fixing mine, myself. There are repair guide videos all over the web. Also, I found a place in the US from which to order parts.

okay, i opeded my ps3 again to be clear on what the problem is, so i was fixing the disc driver i cleaned out every thing. i turned on the ps3 the laser was moving and the motor was spinning, what i forgot was i forgot to put in the game so then i turned off the ps3 and started it again and put the disc in but this time it didn't spin the disc. so what that means is that the bluray is NOT dead some eles is messed up let me know if you know anything about it.

Well you may be screwed because you can't replace the drive. The drive is keyed to a specific motherboard. If the laser had burnt oout then you could have replaced the diode.

Maybe it is off track. Move the laser back and forward a couple of times and see if that helps.

You may have to rebuild the drive. Sorry about your luck. Like I said before though, you cannot simply replace the drive because they are keyed to specific motherboards.
