just bought ratchet 3 for ps2 .put it in ps3 looks blocky as hell .anything i have to do to play it properly .got a full 1080 p tv .ps3 games amazing .
make sure u change the graphic options on the game to the highest possible if there are options available, i.e widescreen, prgressive scan etc. and then the ps2 upscaler options on the ps3 - if upscaling is on, and it looks bad - try turning it off. a lot of the time the upscaling stretches a game rather strangely.
If I'm correct, there are two basic options for PS2 upscaling: Upscaling Normal/Full/Off and Smoothing On/Off.
The internal upscaler is really up to you. If your TV does a good job with upscaling, then you can usually leave this one off. However, the PS3 does do a very, very good job upscaling.
The Normal/Full options, are, obviously, to either upscale to a 4:3 (Normal) or 16:9 (Full) resolution. Depending on what the game can do, you'll want to set this accordingly. (For instance, Ace Combat 5 has an option to output in 16:9, so you'd want to put the upscaler on Full for that game.)
The Smoothing option... well, it smooths the game screen. I just leave this option on. I haven't noticed too much of a smoothing effect, but I haven't paid too much attention anyway.
As for the blockiness, that's a pretty common issue. I mean, it IS a PS2 game. The graphics aren't nearly as polished as a PS3 game, and there aren't nearly as many polygons. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the jagged effects are much more pronounced, especially since you're blowing up the image to fit a 30-40" HDTV.
will try all of above posts and let all know .played turismo old ps2 .lovely .got 2 ps2 games platinum collection for 16 quid .morrisons with discount.
On my TV I turned the upscale feature off and just use the settings built into the game. Like God of War looks better running progressive scan than being upscaled.
The smoothing feature barely helps smooth out PS2 games but it makes a world of difference for PS1 games. And the upscaling feature is always on full for me. I use my PS3 on my PC monitor and have the sides cut off just looks awkward. But when upscaled to full, the top and the bottom are cut off a bit, even with the in game wide screen option turned on. I guess it's just the PS3's upscaler, so I don't really mind.
