New 80GB Ps3 Fan Test Help!

a thew months ago i read that the 40gb ps3 had a built in fan test but the old 20/60/80gb didnt. u had to turn it upside down am i right. we'll i have the brand new 80gb ps3 that came with little big planet & i tryed the fan test the same way u would on a 40gb & it worked exactly the same. i just want to confirm with some of you is this built in? & is it safe for me to use it every thew months?
any help would be much appriciated :)

Sony has confirmed that this is not safe. It is safer with the new 80 and 40 gig units, but Sony has stated that the fan test can cause permanent damage to the cell and RSX due to overheating. Do the fan test at your own risk.

I remember some people turning it upside down when they did it but I don't remember how or why that would help. As I recall even doing it normally should be enough to blow all the loose dust out. Turning it upside down sounds like the ps3's version of the towel trick.

i would just use a can compressed air through the front port fans and it shoudl blow out any dust in the back.

My good ol' PlayStation had to be turned upside down to be played - if this relates to anything.
