One thing I wanted to point out. The link under 'Things you need...' points to the beta bootloader and not the gamma version (well the 3.3 folder does anyway, I can't try the 3.4 contents).
Thanks for pointing that out. have no idea how I missed that. Anyway those that previously downloaded the file before this post can re-download it and drag the Backup_Launcher folder located in the apps folder to the apps folder on the SD card and overwrite when it ask. This should overwrite the beta version with gamma version. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Those that are downloading the file for the first time have nothing to worry about. The file has been corrected.
I get more games to run on wii gator, actually all of them.

Hi Larry fantastic guide, you have made it very easy to follow.

Just a question here, once the twilight hack is complete what risk is there of playing iso's burnt onto dvd rw discs?

I have read some guides here and they say you need to do things to the iso before burning it so it wont brick your wii even with the twilight hack.

Is this true or will a normal burnt iso play on the wii?

Thanks.

The Gamma version is WiiGator it is just the newest bootloader and has the best compatibility of all.

@FS9

Spend some time reading some of the stickied guides in the Wii section to gain more knowledge of the mod-scene.

I followed steps correctly but just keep getting code.. Thank you
What application are you getting the error code for? If it is installing the HBC then make sure you try both save files in the hack. You also need to run the fix which is showed in the link I provided above so the limitation 3.4 puts in place is removed.

I just cant get the Homebrew channel on.. The cios and wad fixes are for having the HBC but I dont.. CAnnot install homebrew channel for back up launcher.Save twilight to sd but when moving around it deletes itself.

Make sure you don't reset the Wii after placing the save file on it. If you do and you have OCT 23rd or 3.4 firmware then the save file will be deleted. Transfer the game save over then go back to the disc channel without resetting.

I also heard about AnyRegion Changer, but im not 100% sure how to use it and if thats what i need. You did said anything below 3.3 will also work. What version do u recommend? I will look up guides, i just want to know what firmware u recommend and what program i should use to upgrade it.

Thanks.
why? It works fine on 3.4
Well, idk if there was any homebrew that is worth wild to keep it runing on the old firmware. But i guess not and the limitation fix should fix it so i guess the only thing i cant do is have Zelda's hack file on the Wii. So i guess i will update. So, yea...

I used a game and upgraded to 3.3 and ran all the steps. I'm still getting the DVD read error 349. Is there a way for me to uninstall everything I have done and completely reset my system to factory setting and start over. I feel at this point I've tried so many things that I'm not sure where I went wrong. Thanks in advance.

did you install cios v7? I had the same issue and had to run the downgrader to remove ios249 and reinstall cios v7. Then it worked perfect.

OK I went back through and made sure all files are the proper files. Then re-uploaded them. The files defiantly include the Gamma version and the cIOS version 7 in the download file.

I must have used the older beta version files by mistake in this guide. But everything has been corrected. So if you used the previous files make sure you re-download the files to get the updated cIOS and Gamma version. Then just run the cIOS installer again to update to version 7 of the cIOS (there is no need to uninstall the ver 6 cIOS you can install ver 7 over it).

I take it you're simply running the softmod. You had any issues with glichy video? I've had that issue but the games work fine until it gets to video scene.

Actually I have a Modchip myself. But have installed the softmod on a few other Wii systems. But there are issues with glitches in the video when running cut scenes within the game. But game play shouldn't be effected. I think that is manly due to the backup loader only reading at 3X not at the regular 6X speed.

Hi
I had previously followed the write up by scott909 and tried 2 discs, mario kart did nothing and de blob started but was very choppy, after reading your guide i have downloaded the files, after deleting everything that was on my sd and copied yours over, i then followed your guide from the wiigator install section as i already had the homebrew channel on the wii.

Could you just clarify your point 22) Launch the cIOS installer listed in the Homebrew Channel Menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the cIOS needed for the Boot Loader to run. After it has installed it will reboot back to the Wii Channel menu.

I was not sure which cIOS was required, the HBC offered to load cIOS249 so i went along with that and tried the same 2 discs, the loader does now say Wiigator gamma, now De blob runs its start up video very smoothly but when it asks to press A + B to start i get a black screen telling me to remove the disc and switch of the Wii, any ideas?
Mario now looks to be working well were it wouldn't even try to load before
Could you just please confirm if i'm on the right track or have i made any errors in converting from one loader to the other

Thanks for any info

I just ran the downgrader 1.0 and then reinstalled cios v7. When I go into the backup launcher it is still showing on the bottom ios249 and I'm still getting DVD read error 349. Any ideas.

@serafin11

Make sure you have the correct cIOS installed on your Wii.

Do this by looking on your SD Card in the apps folder. If it says cIOS_Installer then you have the correct cIOS.

If it says cIOS_Installer249 then you will need to re-download the file at the begging of the guide. Then replace the cIOS_Installer249 folder with the updated cIOS_Installer folder and then run the updated cIOS via Homebrew Channel again.

@joemets

The new cIOS rev 7 is listed as 249 still.

What media are you using? Could be a media issue.

You need a special LG Drive to rip them via PC or you can go to the Ultimate Sticky Thread in the Wii section and follow the guide on how to make backups using your Wii system WiFi or network setup to transfer the backup to the PC.

Too bad the drives are hard to find and are only DVD roms. I'm researching the network trasnfer. Do you need to have one of those drives to do it that way?

No the Wii System reads the game disc and sends the information to the PC via WiFI/Network and it creates the ISO that way.

What do you think?

Since I have both 3.3 and below and 3.4 firmware folders then the choice would evidently be up to you.

I know that. I was talking about the $50 drives you can get on ebay. Waste if you ask me. Some people think ripping via wifi is too hard on the wii, but they don't think playing for 8 hours a day isn't bad for it. I'm going the network way unless anyone else says something bad about it that makes sense.

I am one of the people that thinks it is to hard on the system myself. I dont think it simply reads the data and sends to iso, I think it extracts the data sector by sector and then sends. (J.M.H.O) And that is a lot more intense then just reading the disk like playing the game does.
