I had the EXACT same problem, I had to use a modified version of the wad manager to get the cios installer to install. I messed with it for hours before I figured it out. And now I cant remember the version, I think it was wadmanagerios16. Once it was installed everything worked fine and I went back to my normal wad manager.

Read the guide.
It says if you have the Oct 23rd or 3.4 firmware you have to follow the linked guide to fix the limitations it puts in place (blocks wad/cIOS instillation). The linked guide I provided fixes this limitation and unblocks it.

Put this on a friends Wii yesterday. I noticed I have to go to config in Wiigator and select force NTSC everytime. Otherwise the backup loads in black and white or not at all. Didn't see this mentioned anywhere, anyone else having to do this???

That is because you probably downloaded the iso from the wrong region. If you are in the u.s. download ntsc games if you don't want to force it on.

This is by far the easiest guide:
http://www.wiiguide.co.cc/
Step by step (ie what wiimote buttons to press) and has all the files.

DVDx isn't used in this guide. So why install it. If you used the other guide and installed the old cIOS you will need to uninstall that and DVDx then follow the guide for this as is. This isn't complicated at all.

Yes uninstall the old cIOS and DVDx (as to the iso I think your confused with this. There is no iso that is installed). Then download the files I have provided and follow the guide. If you have the Homebrew Channel installed then all you have to do is follow the boot loader section of the guide.

Many thanks mate, read the guide worked a treat (time and patience is needed),
Now I need to know how to get the Virtual Console working, I can install the WAD files the games appear on the Wii menu but when you click on them it says This could not be accessed through this channel (or words to that affect) any help and advice would be gratefully received.

You can not play imported VC/WiiWare games. They need to be the same region or converted to the same region as your Wii. So make sure they are the correct region. If not uninstall the games via Wad Manager. After that place the correct region WAD files in the WAD folder and then run WAD Manager and install the VC/WiiWare game. Some of the games will need the classic controller to play.

Please help. I messed up and attempted the process without doing the "fix" first for firmware 3.4U. The instruction says now to uninstall IOS249 and try again; how do I uninstall IOS249? Also, is there a way to wipe the slate clean and start all over from step one? Many thanks.

All that will happen if you install the cIOS without running the fix for 3.4 will be the cIOS not being able to be installed. Follow the link I provided to fix the limitation 3.4 puts in place. Then come back to this guide and follow it.

Larry, I got it to work this time. Thanks a bunch. There was a misunderstanding on my part: When you said in your guide to complete only the first 3 steps of the fix link, I thought that meant to complete only the first 3 steps of the "Wii Fix Guide" in that link; so the fix was never completed. This time, I completed all the steps in the "Wii Fix Guide", then went back to your guide and completed it. IT WORKS!!! Thanks much for spending the time to write this guide, and for replying to us newbies.

I did say you only need to do the first 3 steps (sections) in the linked guide. What You Need / Installing Homebrew Channel Guide / Wii Fix Guide You shouldn't have to follow the rest to downgrade unless of course you want to.

In Step 7 of the Wii Fix Guide (linked guide) it says "Using the ?Homebrew Channel?, open ?WAD Manager ?. Install ?WAD MANAGER 1.3?."
Should it said WAD MANAGER 3 instead of WAD MANAGER 1.3?
Or do I need to install WAD MANAGER 1.3 again even though it already appears in the applications list in The Homebrew Channel and is the one that I have been using to install IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad and cIOS_Fix.wad in steps 3 and 4?
When I open WAD MANAGER during this step, there are two WAD MANAGERS to install: WAD MANAGER V3.wad and WAD MANAGER.wad
What WAD MANAGER do I need to install in this step?
Does this step really matters?

I am trying to place the gamma bootloader in as a wii channel. I have seen several videos/screenshots of it being set as a channel rather than going through Homebrew to launch it.
How can I get this set as a channel? I have tried googling for a wad file for it but all I have found is for the beta.
TIA
