help?!?!
Hey Jay4000, Your monitor has a display resolution of 1680 x 1050, 16:10. Which means it will only be able to output the display setting over HDMI to DVI of 720p.
There are two ways you can do this. The first is to hold your finger down on the on button after you switch it on for a few seconds untill it beeps a few times. The display settings should automatically re-adjust to suit your screen.
The second is to plug it into a tv and monitor at the same time, and set it up to use hdmi720p that way.
i have tried with both plugged in. How do you set it to hdmi manually because if i go to settings > display settings > hdmi it says it will try hdmi and both screen goes black then 30 seconds later everything is back to it was before. still not working.
Alright Jay, you pretty much have only one option left. Your going to have to buy a HDMI to DVI cable and get rid of the DVI to HDMI adaptor if this step doesn't work.
Follow these steps exactly. Turn on your ps3 and go to display settings> Video output settings> HDMI > Custom > Then uncheck all but 720P, so that the only tick is next to 720p (and maybe 576P will be locked)then press x then finish.
If your doing it blind, turn on your ps3, press left 4 times, down 10 times, x 3 times, down, x, x, up, x, right, left, x, x, down, x.

Quote:this wont be the only buttons to press baring in mind it will probably ask me if i want to accept these settings but i wont know what it says.
if i plugg both the TV with AV and monitor with DVI to HDMI. the tv says do you want to change to HDMI output and if i accept the TV goes blank but so does the monitor.
Im sure my monitor, the philips 200WS8 is HDCP though so what should i do. HELP!!!
This may sound trivial. But, have you tried changing the monitor input setting. It's like a TV Video 1, Video 2, etc. My monitor has about 7 different video input settings for various connection types. I have one button on the front that allows me to choose the input, just like a TV.
If you are connecting your game to a second DVI port then this is likely the problem. You will need to tell the monitor to show what's coming in through the second DVI port. What is your monitor input setting on?
Sorry it didn't work for you Jay4000. The Asus VH226 is a nice monitor and will be able to do it no hassle. Even better it has a 1920x1080 native resolution so there will be no stretching. Let me know how it looks when you get it.
