Help!! Don't have Dvd-key and was wondering if a Mod-Chip would allow game to boot up.

I all. Wondering if you can help me. I bought a system of Craigslist a while back that said all that was wrong with it was had a cd read error. See this, I bought the system, bought a new drive, then proceeded to flash it, which it took fine, but now it only reads dvds\cds and no games. All it gives me is a "Must be in a Xbox 360" error message. I've flash again and again, even made sure the key was there but no go, it still won't read games.
After looking at numerous forums with other people with an issue similar to it, I concluded that the DVD-key must be wrong and the person whom I bought the console from may have tried flashing it but flashed with the wrong firmware.
My question to all of you is since I apparently don't have the DVD-key, would buying, installing and powering an Xbox 360 with an Infectus 2 or Globe 360 modchip in it have the Xbox boot up games properly without this error? Or am I SOL and have another DVD player that I don't need.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

try extracting it if you can. But if you don't get a key, you just basically bought a brick.

with drive that came with it, I was able to extract a valid key but when I went to flash it to a new dvd drive, all it reads now is a dvd or cd no matter what you put into it.

Yeah, you also have to spoof the new drive to report as if it's the old drive... That is unless you have the exact same drive.

if you did extract a valid key then you're fine. Like everyone else said, just try reflashing it again. Or re-spoofing it if you are using another drive.

if all fails then yes with an infetus2 chip you can change the key and get it to work again
i have not done this so don't know how to do it but im sure there is tutorials out there

Thanks for all the replys.
I was able to flash the dvd drive numerous times and the flash took each time but it still doesn't play games, only dvds or cds.
To address the main point of this thread, so an installed Infetus 2 modchip would be allow my Xbox 360 to boot up a game. Can someone else confirm this before I get it and if there is a tut out there about this?

You can NOT get your key unless you have a valid FW dump of your original FW..(before you started flashing every FW you could)
It's your KEY that needs to be in the FW for it to boot games.
You could get your key with the Infectus 2 chip BUT YOU MUST HAVE A WORKING DVD DRIVE (With a working key) and a exploitable kernel to even OBTAIN the key with the chip.
Basically, no key, no worky ever again.

what drive do you have?
do you have any other drives?
the key you dumped, is it still on the computer?
how did u dump it?
how many times did u dump it?did u power cycle between each attempt?

Sorry for making a mess but is I do want help. Here is the answers to all of questions Reto_rc is asking:
1. I have the Toshiba\Samsung MS25 dvd drive
2. No, I don't have or use any other drive
3. The key I've dumped is on my PC, on my flash drive, and emailed back to me for sale keeping.
4. I've dumped the firmware maybe 5 times and I've power cycled each time the dump was made.

now if the dvdkey is wrong then ur SOL
even a globe or infectus won't do it
so lemme ask one last question before assuring you its a dvd player/media center
are you using the drive that came with it or you are using a new drive
because each box has a unique dvdkey and you need to get the old one off of the original drive, but if you are using the original one and the firmware is made properly with the old key then my guess is its dead

Ok man but you said you got the system off craigslist and bought a new drive so #2 should be a YES.
If you still have the original drive that came in the 360 when you got it off craigslist, you need to dump that FW. That FW should have the key.
Then proceed to flash the NEW drive with the FW with your key inserted AND Spoofed to whatever model the original drive is.
That's about all we can do to help you man unless you are exactly clear on what the problem is, what model numbers the shit you have is and what tools you've used.

The Xbox came with a drive when I bought it but unsure if it was the orginal. So if I dump its firmware and try to flash it onto the new drive, it'll still be dead no matter how many times I flash it because the drive and motherboard key won't be the same.
All I wanted to know was if any modchip would allow the Xbox to boot up a game if the DVDkey was wrong.

if you don't have the drive key, you're screwed. a modchip will not help.

Alright, you mentioned that the original drive may not even be the original. Maybe the dude who sold you the xbox didn't spoof the firmware he put on the drive to the real original drive model. So before going ahead with the modchip, download the latest version of firmware toolbox and open up the firmware file in it and spoof it to the correct drive model. You may actually have to flash it 10 or more times again, but I'd recommened trying this before the modchip.
One question: is the error you are currently receiving the same as the one the guy was receiving?
