Hello all,

Quick question for anyone with a modded 360.

I recently modded my second 360. It was broken 360 a friend gave me that I had fixed with the X-Clamp method. Works like a charm. I only modded it as a secondary option to play my current selection of backed-up games.

Now, I have one of the original Xbox 360 consoles, and it is incredibly loud. The modded Xbox is an elite, and it is significantly lower in sound. I have not connected the elite to the internet as I have no use for it as my back-ups are only there for if or when my hard copy is becomes problematic to read.

Recently, I've decided I rather play on the Elite. Here's the question:

Can I update an Elite with the NXE update that was recently released? And if so, will my Xbox LIVE Account be banned, even if all I play is legit, owned copies on that account?

Thanks in advance.

PS. Sorry about my other topic not meeting the credentials for a proper title. Instead of locking topics like that, why not give me a chance to edit the title? I'm more than willing to edit my mistake, admit it was a mistake, but having duplicate topics isn't really a "fix".

There are tons of opinions and theories on what causes you to get banned and nothing is concrete. We simply don't know. We know about the disc checks for sure. I've been online for over 2 weeks, legit and backups. No issues yet. Of course I installed the NXE before I modded the FW.

Darn, the more important thing to me is the NXE update. Thanks for the reply.

Maybe you could try the offline install of the NXE.

Why don't you just create a silver account and install the nxe that way? This way if anything gets banned you won't have to worry.

You can just take a HDD off of a 360 that has the NXE on it and put it on the elite. NXE made me having 2 Elites actually worth it now that we can install games.

Isn't the 360 flashed with the NXE update? That's why I'm worried. It's not a physical modchip, but a flashed drive.

your console will still stay flashed, but it will eventually get banned, its just a matter of time. it doesnt matter if you play retail games or not, because im sure that you have played at least one burnt game with it.

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

I know why you may think that, but this Xbox has only been used to make sure the burnt back up of games I own work. It's never, technically, played an illegal game, but I'm sure Microsoft has never been thrilled with the idea of people playing legally owned, back up games.

I think I'll just deal with my noisy Xbox. It's not worth getting banned over.

And, I think I will switch the 120GB HDD from the Elite, to my noisy one though. But, I'm definitely not looking forward to recovering my account and redownloading all my Xbox Live games.

it doesnt matter if you only played/tested the game to see if it will boot up, or if you played the game in its entirety, the information is still sent to MS so your console will still get banned.

Damn this dude must work for Microsoft he knows everything. I have been playing legal backups for over a year now I am not banned. But I know eventually I will. LOL

Your original statement seemed like you were accusing me of playing illegal games I either only rented or downloaded. I was merely just stating otherwise. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Who are you? Do you even know what you're talking about?

I know several people who've played modded boxes on Live for over 6 months now without any problems. A few of them played nightly without an issue. If you're using mulleter and doing things right, you're fine. Yeah, you may eventually get banned, but the likelihood is low. People used to get banned all the time because the stealth didn't send back a proper response, but now it does. Go read up on it if you're interested in that kind of stuff. They have it on wikipedia. It talks about angles and stuff. Way over my head.

Anyway, NXE is a patch for the system, not for your drive. They are not connected. You'll be fine.

PS: If you aren't connected when you put in a burnt game, the information isn't sent. It's not like the xbox saves every bit of information that passes through it and sends it all back to MS. It's not a freakin' spy. What is this? Soviet Russia?

In Soviet Russia, Xbox mods you!

i believe that i do know what im talking about, as im pretty sure i've been following things longer than you are. and actually it is believed that the xbos saves all the information and then sends it back once you log into live via an ethernet connection. but hey man, go ahead and believe what you want.

also, i too have an xbox that hasnt been banned yet, oh, and its a launch console as well. is it because i hardly play on live, possibly, is it because i've always checked my games, possibly, or is it because i've been lucky....i would say so.

The time you've spent following things doesn't mean as much as the experience you've had while you've been following things.

One of my friends from work downloaded and played a non-retail version of Fallout 3 on his xbox. He wasn't connected to live at the time and when he did finally connect the only thing that happened was that it corrupted his saves because it wasn't a retail copy.

Now, if every single thing was saved and sent back, he would have been banned. Non-retail is a huge flag. I've given you an example of when someone was unplugged and didn't get banned. Now you give me an example of when someone was unplugged and did get banned.

it's not like it's an insta-ban. it's slowly building up.

the sure way for playing LIVE is not to flash the console, and don't do anything stupid on LIVE.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Sorry man, but you're going to need to be the one who needs to read up and do his homework. Everything wabash has been saying has been correct. How about you learn some of the real info, and quit trying to tell others, who have I'm sure been into this scene much longer than you, what's right and what isn't. Maybe do some reading on the "number of flags" theory. Or actually learn how the things work, and not saying that it is "way over your head" then trying to correct more experienced members.

When you get a little experience under your belt, and some credibility (which I haven't seen from any of your posts yet), then maybe we'll listen.

But guesswho, you're telling him he has to learn real info and telling him he's wrong, yet, that was your whole post. You didn't bother to actually try and disprove him, but merely just wrote a paragraph that could merely be summed up in "You're Wrong. Why? Because I said so.". You cannot sell his inexperienced and tell him to learn real info when you yourself have said nothing of value.

It no longer even matters as I have decided not upgrade the Xbox or use it for legit games.

But on that note, is it only not the HDD that keeps track on everything? Like, the information that would be sent to Microsoft, it would be saved within a Game Save. So if I took out the HDD, that alone debunks your theory.

as for not telling the other guy why he is wrong, there is no explanation needed, is just wrong, just like if you were to say that 2+2=5, theres no reason to say why you would be wrong, you just would be.

as for your hard drive statement, it is widely believed that the information is stored somewhere in the console itself, as if it were stored on the HD, then you would not be able to use the same hard drive that you were using on a banned console on a new console and keep is unbanned.

want some tech info?

So far, all security related information (related to the games played on your 360) is stored on the 360 mobo. It is stored in a secdata.bin file in NAND.

This is where information is transmitted from that is sent to MS.

When they permanently ban individuals, they ban MAC addresses, not Gamertags or HDDs.

And your little example of 2+2=5 is incredibly juvenile. "He's wrong 'cause he's wrong". This may not be rocket science, but it's a tad more complicated than 2+2=5. Now, you're just being stupid.

Tell me I'm wrong when I say the Earth is flat than, without bringing up any examples. Just tell me I'm wrong, and I'll be as ignorant as you and say "Nope, I'm right, you're wrong. Why are you wrong? Because you just are." If you want to act childish, everyone else can too.

If you had any help to give, you would have given it already, so don't act like all of a sudden, you have all the answers. And you're mocking my maturity? At least I didn't use some stupid "2+2=5" example or say he's wrong just because he's wrong.

For everyone else though, thank you for your help.
