This is the 1st time this has happened to me . I`ve previously had lots of success with shrink , with movies this size .
I want to back up entire disc , menus/all intact , the DvD is originally 7.63 gigs , & no matter what I do with shrink I cant make it small enough to fit on one disc . I`ve tried automatic & custom compression , to no avail , I`ve also followed a few guides , Ie doom9.org etc.

Thanx

It's not you.
There is a maximum amout of compression that the newer releases will allow. Get an older version like 2.3 to do your compressing & ripping. I keep v2.3 and 3.1.x on my machines.

PS
I just noticed most of DvD size must be video , it only has 1 audio track option
ac3 2 channel english , the others I was able to shrink , even though much larger , is because I was able to drop a load of unwanted audio options ?
But regardless , shouldnt I be able to shrink 7.63 gigs to one disc . I mean what are the exact numbers I can expect to have &work with ?
Thanks

What DVD are you working on?
Have you tried using Shrink to rip the DVD files?
As a last resort use the Re-author option, chose Main Movie and any other extras you want and drag them to the DVD area. Remove any unwanted subtitles & audio tracks and see if it's within limits.
I don't know the the exact maximum compression levels Shiring uses now, maybe someone can jump in here and tell us.
luck-

Hi
Its my sons Pantera 3 vulgur videos . & yes I`ve tried shrink to rip dvd files , with same results :(
Yes the DvD can be reauthored & split into 2 dvds , but alas , I really want all menus etc intact , & more than that , a challenge has presented itself & I usually dont give up . I do wish I knew shrinks limits though . Seems it worked in past because I had lotsa audio options to remove , & only 1 audio track this time . maybe ya cant actually shrink 7.63 gigs to one dvd ?
Cheers :)-

Hi again
I thought I`d try shrinking twice , that should shrink enough, but The checking discs (ready to burn ) please insert disc window pops up after the 1st shrink , if I hit cancel wont this erase the temp folder with all the shrunk files in it ? I cant seem to figure how to tell shrink not to delete the temp folder it makes .
I think I found a way to do it , but need to work around this one problem 1st
thanks

The same thing happened to me, I could not get a movie to shrink enough. I tried DVD2One and viola !!
Gets the job done all the time.

Thanks
Maybe I`ll give DVD2One a go then .
DvDshrink Well it shrunk dvd to 4.34 GB (4,662,702,080 bytes) , which sould fit on a memorex 4.7gb disc , but it wont , shrink
nor Nero will burn it . The burn button remains ghosted in Nero when I load it as I always load dvds to burn , which seems to say its still to large ?
Not sure wot to do now , `xept bang my head on monitor again
Any further advice appreciated :)-

I'm backing up Lynard Skynyrd - Freebird: The Movie & Tribute Tour - keeping the menus and extra. DVD Shrink reported the uncompressed size as 7,970 Gig. Automatic compression brought the 2 Main Movies down to 52%.
Shrinking it twice should have worked. But you got it done and that's all that matters.

The burn fails at the end? If you have Nero set to automaticaly burn after the backup try disabling it. Start Nero (not using the Wizard) and burn a DVD-Video.
If you're not using Nero it could be your blank media.
What are you using to burn?

Gee...donno. I use Shrink set to 4050 in all my backups both Re-authored and full DVDs. Keep all English audio tracks and subtitles. I use Nero 6.3.0.3 to burn DVD-Video files. Haven't had problems at all with my NEC ND-1100A burner ad Shrink & Nero combo.

The problem could be the program Nero for real not sure but when I use DvdShrink I use CloneDVD the one from Elaborate Bytes to burn this is the option I choose:
Use DvdShrink automatic settings ripping on a folder on your desktop
After this is done open up CloneDVD select write existing data, movie files, and select the folder that has all the .VOB files in it the folder you just used with DvdShrink.Select what dvd burner you want to use and the speed. If you want you can put a volume label in.Press go and it burns it this is probably better this program since it is made for movie backups make sure you get the program Elaborate Bytes CloneDVD because there are two programs out that are called CloneDVD the one from Elaborate Bytes is the shiznit. If DvdShrink won't work with this you can always get a program called AnyDvd to use also which works great.
Peace L-Burna hope I helped out a lil bit
