I have some mkv and avi files on a usb drive. I out the files in the ps3 and go to video and the usb drive and it says no video files.

So I created a folder on the usb stick PS3>VIDEOS or VIDEO>add file here. It tells me the same message. I just wanted to now how can I view my files on my ps3 and what format does it take because this sucks.

Insert your USB drive, and locate it on the Video section of the XMB. Press TRIANGLE, then select DISPLAY ALL.

Your videos should then show up.

just tried that and nothing. Should the files have a specific name or certain extension?

Are you sure you're on the Video tab?

And the PS3 can't recognize any .mkv files. The .avi files may or may not pop up as unsupported data.

Besides that, your flash drive might not be fat32 formatted. Just throwing it out there.

My thumb drive is formatted to fat32. The files are mkv so I guess thats why its not reading it. So what is the best file format the ps3 can read and without losing the quility of the video?

M2TS or Blu-Ray folder. Use tsMuxer to mux to .m2ts if you just want video/audio and Blu-Ray folder if you want subtitles and chapters, as well.

There's a program called AVCHD-Me or something like that that'll let you play your Blu-Ray folders directly from your PS3, as well, so you won't have to burn them onto DVDs.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Good luck working it out.
