HI,
I have a few questions and not sure if this is the correct area to post.
I would like to backup my current DVD movie collection and store them on a external HD instead of backing up to dvd media.
I currently have a PS3 but was also looking at something like the WD TV HD Media Player. Whether or not i need something like the WD TV HD Media Player i don't know, will the PS3 doe all the same features?
Basically i want to backup my dvd movie collection to the BEST or close to best file type that can be played to either of these through a external HD.
So,
1) What is the best or close to best file type to convert my DVD movies to store on a external HD to be played on either the PS3 or WD TV HD Media Player?
2) Should i look into something like the WD TV HD Media Player for ease of use, file types that can be played, etc. or will the PS3 handle everything just as well?
I hope i am somewhat clear enough to what i am asking and appreciate any help.
Thanks!

There's a link to the product, by the way. For anyone else who wants to take a crack at comparing it.
Anyway, from what I've seen, the biggest difference is the fact that the WDTV thing supports NTFS-formatted drives, which would make it much better-suited for HD playback as it's not limited by the 4GB filesize limit.
That said, everything else seems more or less the same as the PS3. But that's just at a glance; I didn't bother to take an in-depth look at it.
EDIT:
In regards to your first question, the PS3 can play .vob files straight from a DVD rip, so there'd be no loss of quality. Additionally, you can get almost zero quality loss from almost every codec out there, but I'd suggest using x264.
