Hello aII!Simple question, what is the difference in DVDShrink & DVDShrink Beta?
I'm useing Shrink 3.16,the last issue before Nero put this fine Gentleman to work.He left with a notification that this was going to be his last update, for the reason being he was going to work for Nero.On their Recode which is Quite similar to Shrink.
Is DVDShrink Beta by another fine Gentleman or Lady that is working on an improvement,by an already Excellent Program

Howdy Doo rick5446,

I'll try to ease your troubled brow - as they discover "Bugs" or try to fine tune their program from time to time it becomes necessary to change the number so that people can tell the difference - Generally, when it's a major change the number changes, when it's "Tweeked", it's a beta change -

As a for instance, today they came out with another update for DVD Shrink (just when you thought you were on top of everything :P). The new kid in town is called version 3.1.7 (No Beta).

You'll find that you're going to want this version - "Why", you ask. I'll be glad to tell you - Using this guy you can rip your DVD with this OR Decrypter (but you knew that - but this you didn't know) Now when you're done with DVD Shrink, you can have Decrypter burn your DVD for you the 3rd such version to be able to do this but now, they've de-bugged it and it works like a "Bad Boy" Yep, from "Soup" to "Nuts" and all for FREE ! ! Can you say, "WHaaaHooo" !!!

Just call me "Happy" ScubaDoo - :D)

Pete, could you go into a bit more detail on what makes this version better? I just downloaded the previous version a few days ago, but if this is much better Ill upgrade to this one. Thanks.

zach,

Here's the version history for DVD Shrink to see what changes they made for the new version

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/version_history/dvd_shrink.cfm

Basically, I think that if you do not want to use DVD Decrypter as burning program together with DVD Shrink there is not much of a difference between the 3.1.6 and 3.1.7 versions. But if you don't have Nero or you want to try DVD Decrypter then you'd better get the newest version.

Anyway, this program is so small that it propably is worth the update anyway, since there are a few minor other changes and bugfixes in the newest version.

I just read that Piodata Disc's are Taiyo-Yuden.Have u had any Exp w/these disc's
As Taiyo-Yuden they are pretty expensive. But reasonable as PioData $1.10 ea.They are supposed to Burn a little more true without defects(this is a Question)?
Would these be better than G04's

I once burned a stack of taiyo-yuden 2x bulk disc, and most of them worked fine. Some had problems at the outer edge, which caused errors in the finalizing of the disc. Those were unbranded and really cheap and came in a spindle of 50.

My personal opinion is that Verbatims and Ritek G04:s are the most reliable and affordable discs out there right now. Of course there are also other more or less good brands out there, so you have to check out for yourself which ones work best for you. Here's also a combatibility chart for different medias vs. different players

http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvdr_compatibility.htm

And here on this site you can type in the media and see how it has worked on different burners and players

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia

Hope this helps.

EDIT: A quick scan for Piodata media (Leaddata discs) showed very mixed results, so I personally wouldn't buy these. Here's the result page:

Well guys and gals it worked !! Sorry it took me so long to respond but I've been busy at work. As it turns out all I needed was a DVD-RW disk in my burner. Thanks for the link Frank, it was pretty simple and a real lifesaver !!
