I have been experimenting with XP's big brother/sister and so far I am surprised. I bought "Death Defying Acts" this afternoon and opened it with DVD Shrink - set to make image iso and burn with DVD Decrypter. All very old free software used on the Windows Beta Test of the new Operating System 7. Very fast burn. I just finished watching it and there were no errors - perfect backup. For the hesitant - and you know you want to try it, I installed "7" on an older WD 40 gig hard drive and when the Beta test expires I will just use that drive again as a backup - plug the original XP Pro drives back in and no re-install. I forgot to mention I had Any DVD running - this is a 2007 movie so I figured I would need something to get past any copy protection. Jack

There will be no new version of DVD Shrink, it is no longer updated. It does, however, work on Windows Vista.

Yes, that's right ferguj1 - I used the last version of DVD Shrink 3.2. That's why I said "All very old free software" Today I tried the same *.iso and again on Windows 7 burned another disk with Image Burn. I might be wasting a few blank media, but I want to see what will and what will NOT work. Look at the SAW V thread - I had success with other programs on the "7" OS. I am not sure yet what will happen with Ripit4me, FixVTS. I did get DVD Fab HD to rip to the hard drive but had to think what program to use to burn the movie. I think I burned the HD folder with CloneDVD2.

ok I tried dvd shrink 32015 on my vista ultimate and it didn't work !!
might try again though its a good program if it works
"witenoiz" said he's trying all on windows 7 , right?
well I got my keys and ISO's for 32bit&64bit the only thing stopping me from installing it is a program that works like Daemon tools or alcohol 120% to well do what they do I'm told both DON'T WORK , so no games to test so no install
if any one finds a program that does what daemon tools does and works on windows 7 please PM me or post here I'm linked
thanks

Have Vista Ultimate running on 3 PC's (1 desktop & 2 laptops) and DVD Shrink works just fine.. If you are having problems, go into properties and try setting to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode.
If the only thing you're using Daemon Tools for is to be able to mount an iso... Slysoft.com has "virtual clonedrive" which is a free program.. You might want to try that one.

I'm just trying to stay on topic with this thread. My latest effort is RipIt4Me and this is an old movie from my collection. 1967 "The Way West" since I'm not trying to break any NEW encryption - just programs. I used Ripit4Me when that finished I got some screen that said failed to recognize something with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4 - I clicked OK and it went right into FixVTS, then Automatically went to DVD Shrink as described in my first post and on to DVD Decrypter to make the image and burn. Not a problem. Since I had the success with Saw V I will wait until the next real problem release to try further - but my point has been the earliest software most of us have used will work with "7". I have Nero 8 on Vista - but prefer (for my purposes) Nero 7.x on XP. I won't even attempt Nero on "7". Thanks - hope this helps.

He just left my house - said he is having trouble installing drivers! I told him he didn't need to because 7 has what he needs in the beta. He has lots of trouble with his 64 bit system - or at least one of his hard drives for it. I think he is only using a 20 gig. Stay tuned.

Here is an update on Windows 7 (The RC released May 5) I installed it on my 64 bit Toshiba Laptop. I used a converted DVR movie (mpeg from my capture card) Made a DVD with XP and Nero 7 and checked to make sure it would play correctly. On the Toshiba I had installed DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and a number of other programs. I opened the disc I created on XP - on 7 with Shrink set to make image iso and burn with DVD Decrypter - and everything works great. It is a perfect copy. Now - there is one little glitch (I have run into this with Vista) 7 said something was busy or that was not available and gave me 3 options abort retry ignore. Just hit ignore and it works. These two programs DO work on Windows 7.

DVD Decrypter can't register its autoplay handler (even in Vista 64bit. You have to edit the registry manually.
From Desktop: Start \type in: Regedit \ HKey_Current_User\Software\DVD Decrypter change the value of every entry that starts with REGISTRY_ to zero (the number 0 not the word)
Do this and DVD Decrypter will closed normally without the annoying pop ups.

Hi,
I just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Both DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2 installed fine with no issues.
Just ripped a DVD with Decrypter and backed up with Shrink and all worked ok without any registry edits or any other settings (just ran like it did under XP).
Hope this helps!

What kind of Windows are you using, Vista or 7? Using DVD Decrypter, have you encountered the 6-7 pop ups while closing the program? If so, you can set that on the registry to close normally, otherwise all the softwares you mentioned should work fine with all versions of windows.
I use all the latest version of these under Windows 7 64bit:
DVD Decrypter (Gets the job done 99.5% of the time and fast!)
DVD-Remake
DVD Shrink (use this after DVD Decrypter if shrinking is retained above 70%, anything under, I use DVD Rebuilder)
DVD Rebuilder (w/ HC Encoder 0.24 and Avisynth 2.58)
DVDFab 5 (I come back to this one when all others failed. A gem that can still decrypt when others can't, yes even when AnyDVD and DVDFab 6 or Decrypter couldn't do the job)
DVDFab 6

You best bet is just to forget about Vista OS......it do not have Customer Support anymore (since around Oct. 2009) and it was a big headache for Microsoft and all customers......
You should just try do down-grade to XP OS or Up-grade to Windows 7 and you just gonna be on better shape.
I just Un-instal Vista Today for a Friend of Mine and Use XP OS in stead.
