I have had a question for a while now. I just got ym income tax return so time for a new TV. Though I would rather not invest money into HDTV if I do not need to. As I do not like it all that much. But therein lies my issue. I now own only a floor model old-school TV that obviously only outputs 480i. When i play PS3 on it it looks like crap of course, The worst part being that I cannot read any medium to small text in any game. It is just a pure blur.
What i would like to do is drop maybe 150 bucks on a new TV that supports something like 480p. As I believe there is not a whole lot of difference between HD and Progressive scan, at least my eyes tell me so, I understand the technology is better, But the human eye can only do so much. So would it be sufficient for me to get a 480p TV, Or would that still not allow perfect picture to allow for reading of text.
I'd say spend around 200 and get yourself a 22" lcd computer monitor that does 720p. You could likely get a smaller size for less that still does 720p but I find 22" is the most comfortable.
Well when I first received my PS3 I did not use the hdmi connection, instead decided to stick with the scart cable.
I already had a HDTV, but just like you I could not read the4 small text.
So answer is as canuckerz said, get yourself a computer monitor with a HDMI socket. Cheaper than a large TV but you should be able to read the smaller text.

DVI socket, in case there's any confusion. You may be able to find one with an hdmi slot but it's unlikely. Also make sure the monitor is HDCP.

while I would love to do that I am afraid I do not have the cash to spend on a monitor that is going to used only for PS3 use. I was planning on replacing my living room TV in general. So i kinda wanted to replace that TV while still being able to play PS3 with text reading.
Either way it seems I cant even buy progressive scan televisions anywhere anymore. I have looked in so many stores and online its all HD or SD no ED anymore I guess.
