Okay I have a 60GB PS3 (uses software emulation for PS2 games) I have installed Linux ubuntu on it but want to install Windows (any but mainly XP) I have got the ubuntu ISO still and have a windows XP CD.

I know that you can emulate windows in linux but it uses a hella load of RAM and I can't have the entire 256MB like linux.

I want to know if there is anyway that I can just install XP to the PS3.

It would be better to run 2000 assuming you can get a copy from a mate to try,it uses far less resources than xp & 98 uses even less than 2000 tho for ease of install 2000 would be best

Well technically yes and no, they ran it under an emulator on a PS3 using linux. So it was like an OS in an OS.

The big issue with running a virtual pc is RAM,the quickest way for you to get an idea of how bloody painfully slow an OS can be is run xp in microsofts virtual pc software on your comp first (it'd be quicker to setup) before putting it on a PS3,it's also a faster way for you to gauge which OS runs at a reasonable speed with the least amount of RAM,remember when using linux to run xp you're actually attempting to run two OS's at the same time,to be honest i would'nt waste my time,ok so i don't have a PS3 to see how it would perform however i do run vpc's on my comp & that was originally with only 512mb on a 2.0ghz cpu & 7200rpm hdd,it was baaaaad, even 1 gig did'nt make it that much better however the early OS's of windows did run pretty good, the further back you go the faster it is with little required ram in saying that i'd stop @ 98..lol..

Edit: another advantage of running pre xp is there's non of that activation crap there's also the updates required too xp was'nt the greatest till SP2 & that was'nt a small update. My guess is you'll eventually dump the lot & stick with linux on the PS3 but it is worth trying windows just so you can say you have & you may be able to help someone else who wants to give it a go,& if you happen to get stuck just ask varnull for help & say scorp sent you *muttley laugh* she'll be more than accomodating..lmfao..

The only reason to attempt to do this would be to run xp using Wine. I dont think wine is that stable on PPC architecture and the ram issue is there. To sum it up attempting this and expecting any good results is ludacris.
