I have a External Hardrive set up on my ps3 i have it partioned the right way and everything is working great, except for the fact when i try and play a video there is no audio, and the audio works great on my computer when i watch so i know its not a file issue, any ideas?
Just because it plays on your PC doesn't mean it'll automatically play on your PS3. PCs are inherently more compatible with more types of audio/video/etc. simply because they're more user-customizable.
The problem is most likely that your video has an audio stream that the PS3 doesn't support. Can you figure out what audio codec it's using? (You can use AVICodec or GSpot to check .avi files, but I'm not sure what to use with other formats.)
Yeah i was just going through the files and it actually plays 2 of the movies i downloaded and there only dolby digital sounds the other movies are MP3 formats... is there anyway i can fix it to work?
You can demux the video and convert the audio (from... DolbyDTS?) to AC3 or AAC or any other audio format you want. Then you simply remux the audio and video.
If your file is an .avi, you can use VirtualDubMod to extract the audio.
Once you've got the audio stream, you can use eac3to + eac3toGUI to convert it to AC3.
Then, once you've got the new audio, simply use VirtualDubMod again to remux the audio back into the .avi file.
When you're done, the file should play just fine on the PS3.
Heh. Yeah, it sounds complicated. But it's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. It's sorta like taking apart and putting back together a Lego tower. Kinda. Except, y'know... digitally.
I'm sure there's an easier way of doing it than I'm suggesting, but I, for the life of me, don't know of it.
